Guys, since we basically didnt sign anyone this year as a freee agent except for Zach Thomas, what do you think we can get really for former cowboys;
Julius Jones, he once was a 2nd round pick, maybe a 4th?
Reeves CB was a 6th i think, probaby a 7th pick in compensation?
Nate Jones, was a 7th, so maybe a 7th?
Keith Davis, he was a free agent, will we get anything?

Plus our own picks in 2009,
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, plus 3rd & 4th in trades this year, plus a 6th from Miami

That should give us a
1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4-J. Jones,5, 6, 6, 6 Reeves, 7, 7 Jones, not sure about DAvis?

1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, and maybe something for Davis 5?
13-14 picks what i see next year, possibly ammunition to trade up, in draft get an impact WR, and later in 2nd to 4th round to trade up again, get another impact player,

I see next year, needing possibly only 6-8 players;
we probably lose Columbo, Hurd or Austin, Brad Johnson-unless trade for a QB this summer, and Bartel comes on, then B Johnson cut this year, Terrry Glenn if not this year, possibly T O-I dont think so but maybe he is getting old, Proctor, he cant block a big nt, Roy Williams-heard his contract better next year to cut or trade, Greg Ellis-his contract goes way up and he will be 35 i think, maybe henry not sure when his contract runs out,

we have a good draft this year, with F Jones, M Jenkins, M Bennett, T Choice, O Scandrick, not sure about OLB in 6th, and dont forget we gave a 4th for Pacman-whom is a # 1 former draft choice,
so really what does that mean actually for cowboys
1. Felix Jones
1. Mike Jenkins
1. Pacman
2 Marellus Bennett
4 T Choice
5. O. Scandrick

thats an A plus in my book, then you add in our draft picks next year with extra 3rd and 4th, should be able to get a impact WR, along with another impact player 2nd to 3rd, that should make the cowboys real deep on roster;

then you add in last year of salary cap is 2009 or 2010, Jerry Jones then can keep the roster built, like he could have in 94 before the salary cap hit, may make a BIG BIG RUN AT CHAMPIONSHIPS IN DALLAS FOR 7-10 YEARS!!!!

Comp picks have nothing to do with when they were picked, it's about contracts and production.

Most likely, we'll get a fifth-rounder for Jacques Reeves (assuming he plays a lot), a sixth-rounder for Julius Jones and a seventh for Keith Davis. Nate Jones didn't sign for enough money and probably won't play enough to get us anything.

i'm surprised you think reeves will net a better pick than julius but as always I defer to you Adam. Guess it goes to show how much Julius sucks.

Reeves signed for more money than JJ.

Conclusion? Texans are inept franchise for handing out 20M to Reeves.

True. But it almost looked like they knew what they were doing with the drafting of Mario Williams and Demeco Ryans...

Hate to rain on the parade as well, but comp picks can't be traded.

That is true.

But it still leaves 9 (1,2,3,3,4,4,5,6,7) other draft picks to play with. :D

Keith Davis was an undrafted FA signing for us; don't believe we get any compensation for him. Also any comp picks we get for Julius, Reeves or Nate Jones can't be traded. Unless any one of these players has a great season, doubt we get anything higher then 6th rounders.

Where he was drafted is completely irrelevant when it comes to comp picks.

If Reeves plays every snap for the Texans, we'll almost certainly get a fifth-round pick no matter how poorly he plays. The only things that matter are his contract, playing time and postseason honors, with the contract being by far the biggest factor.

right, i knew compensation picks cant be traded, but the other ones can,

gosh, i was hoping and thinking that julius jones would at least get a 4th round draft choice for him, maybe he will have a big year in seattle,

or maybe a 5th at least, that way we can play with our own 4th, the 4th we got in a trade, and the 3rd and the 2nd, to package to get at least 2 good players or 3,

i am thinking after our big haul this year with
felix jones, mike jenkins, pacman-granted he plays
martellus bennett and choice, there wont be too
many roster spots after this year;

so then you can do what jimmy johnson did in early 90s
package those picks and get a couple more impact players

thats how tom landrys teams with tex schramn built the team,
llike packaging picks for tony dorsett, etc, or when we packaged
picks and moved up to pick russell maryland one year,

you keep your team intact and super talented players by getting
impact players

With all those picks we might be able to find a Strong Safety that can cover a tight end.

Or, with all the CBs we now have, maybe we'll be able to play Roy closer to the LOS instead in deep coverage bec. of Reeves ineptness.

Guess you're a glass half full guy.. But I do hope Campo can turn Roy around. Teams gameplaned on abusing Roy last year.

Seems like I remember Albert Breer posting on this topic a while back, and he said that he doesn't expect any compensation because we didn't even try to sign those guys. Anybody got a definitive answer? I don't mean to question your expertise, Adam, I just remembered something different.
