We manage the cap well. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't understand the cap

You don't manage the cap well when you give out as many bad contracts as the Cowboys have over the years. We're one of the worst at it.

I have yet to see anything verified about that. There was a rumor for a while, but I don't know if it was actually ever reported as such. The clearest the story was that it was a "significant" offer. I think that a 2nd round pick was just speculated on at that point.

...but yeah, even if it was a 4th, we shoulda done it :)

You're not going to have much verified from trade talks within the league that never came to fruition. The bottom line is to go nearly twenty years and now recoup a 1st, 2nd or 3rd round pick for any player on your roster is just bad management. That's a GM with no foresight.

I don't see very many bad contracts right now.

People say that when they don't understand much about contract structure

I say that because I do understand contract structure. I say that because I do understand dead money. I say that because I do understand the Cowboys are constantly having to restructure and create room just to be able to conduct an offseason. I saw the FA periods they've have to sit out because of their great cap management. I see one coming this spring for the same reason.

It is laughable to say they manage the cap well. They're an 8-8 team that hasn't won anything in two decades and they entered February 20 million over the projected cap. Nothing more needs to be said than that.

I saw a tweet from Bob Sturm that said they Cowboys have not traded a player on their roster for a 1st, 2nd or 3rd round pick since Jimmy Johnson was the coach.

That's just incompetent GMing.

That's not incompetent that's just realistic. How many other teams have not traded any of their top players for a 1st, 2nd or 3rd? Everyone is not the Patriots and if anyone has noticed since the Pats have started that philosophy they have 0 championships to show for it.

What is laughable is that you cite the 20 mill over the projected cap piece. Totally ignoring that a massive chunk of that reflected deals that we scheduled for automatic restructures.

So basically, the 20 mill over the cap piece is totally irrelevant if you understand cap structure.

If you don't you think it is super important.

If you understand it then you must be incompetent.
