Seems like we can make some bad trades with all those free picks.

I think we traded one of our 2018 5th round picks.
They did for SS Xavier Woods. But if this is correct they will have 2 5th round comp picks. Although the picks could possibly be better than what this shows depending on playing time and maybe if Leary or someone made the probowl.

What's next year's draft strength predicted to be? Hopefully DL, WR and LB.

I'm guessing that'll be Dallas' priorities. DL is filled with stagnant no names. WR core is aging Dez 28 Twill 28 Beas is like 26-27, Dez has injury history. And the LBs behind Lee aren't very good, even when jaylon comes in, the backups need upgrading.

I expect more comp picks in the future as the Cowboys let underperforming UFA's leave rather than overpay to keep them.

They seem to have the offseason acquisition of talent figured out. Draft their younger and cheaper replacements.

Don't trade anymore of those picks. I like the Patriots strategy of throwing as many numbers at draft as possible because at best its 50/50 proposition.

They traded most of their picks this year for proven players...1st and 3rd for Brandin Cooks, 2nd for Kony Ealy, 4th round pick for Dwayne Allen, and a 5th round pick for James O'Shaughenssey. This is also a year when they forfeited a 4th round pick for "deflategate" and sent over another 5th round pick to Buffalo for signing restricted free agent Mike Gillislie.

This is like the idea that the Patriots win because they don't sign big-name free agents.. until they do, they signed Darrelle Revis to a $12M deal in 2014 and just signed premier free agent Stephon Gilmore to a 5-year, $65M deal. Cowboy fans fall into this trap where they buy the company line... "we will build through the draft".."free agency bad"... etc. The Patriots have been a perennial winner these last several years by not just having some single-minded focus, they adjust and adapt. They looked at this draft and felt they wanted veterans instead. They looked at free agency and thought adding Gilmore greatly improves their team. They do what it takes to win.

This team has a chance to be very good with Dak, Zeke, and the offensive line for the next several years. If they don't use every single aspect of talent acquisition, including unrestricted free agents, they are going to blow it. Every team attempts to "build through the draft" and lazy teams try to fix too much via free agency. The great franchises, like New England and Green Bay, utilize both.

I think the big reason they blew off the draft and went the free agency and trade route is that they realize Brady has a small window left. No time to wait on rookies to develop.

I'm glad those comp picks are tradable now, gives a lot of mid round flexibility if needed

Thats really a game changer, can't believe the NFLPA let it happen. Makes more teams not want to spend on vets in free agency.

We never usually let this many people walk, but now they did and its based on being able to trade those picks now.

That's the thinking and hope of other teams that they are making the final runs with Brady, unfortunately Brady will be around for a while.

They made those moves cause they are actually good moves even if Brady retires tomorrow, at that point they are setting up for their backup that people are wanting to trade for. Why we don't see the importance of drafting QBs, don't know, but they nurture the position.

I hope they aggressively try a trade a few veterans for more picks next year. Having 11-12 picks will provide a great starting point to embark on a multi year draft strategy of trading down in the middle rounds and then with the extra picks, trading out for better picks the following year. Doing this for several years in a row will result in a draft a few years from now with multiple 2nds and 3rds. That is something I would like to see them do.
