Several days until our Cowboys go to Oxnard to start camp. With our new staff, will we actually see competition take place for all positions? This makes the team better by putting out the best player, and it not being based upon years in the league, or the amount of your contract. Do you think this new staff will do this, please give your thoughts!

There will likely be more competition than normal just because you have a lot of new coaches who will be evaluating players differently, but seniority and contracts will still be a major factor so it wont be an extreme change. Joe Milton wont be unseating Dak Prescott regardless if he looks like Tom Brady with the wheels of Mike Vick in camp. The veteran RBs are much more likely to start the season getting reps than the rookies even if they look better in camp. Mazi and Guyton likely have to be total trainwrecks in camp to be in danger of losing starting gigs because they are recent 1st rounders.

I'd probably look at the safety positions, maybe down the depth chart at WR after the top two guys. I could also see a surprise somewhere at a position like DE, LB. Starters on offense are probably 90% set already.

I think largely the best performing players will start, but I think that is generally the case despite others here feeling differently. Occasionally they defer to seniority and an expectancy of veterans to be better then they are like Zeke last year. I think RB is once again a position where that could happen as there is no one too inspiring in that room right now.

I don't see how this camp is going to be any different from prior years. I still expect this team to be incredibly undisciplined about penalties and weak willed.

Not sure what's not being driven into these players about making poor decisions

You think Mike McCarthy truly believed washed up Zeke was a better player than Rico Dowdle last year?

One of many examples imo. Jerry has even came out and said he isn’t paying this type of money for players to not play.

It's easy to blame Jerry, no thinking or knowledge required
Ha yes.

You know how much I can’t stand Jerry, but he IS the GM….in title anyway….and he should be involved in those decisions. Why wouldn’t he? He listens to the coaches opinions when forming his own anyway.

Whether him or his kid are qualified to hold that title given the results is the question, and they prefer to double/triple down on certain mistakes and it’s hurt more than paid off.

I just wish he would defer to the head coach when asked certain things by the media, like injury status, game planning, and ESPECIALLY player performance.

“Thats a question for Brian” would go a very long way, or just don’t talk at all.

As a former HC would you have not lost your mind if some important booster or whatever insisted on talking about that stuff in public? That’s how many fans feel.

I know you’re not a Jerry basher, but I’d be surprised if you think Jerry’s mouth isn’t a detriment to what the HC might be trying to get across in certain cases.
