This. People who thought we were going to take one of the worst defenses the NFL, then move it to a 3-4 base and turn it into a top 10 defense in ONE offseason was dreaming. I mean it COULD happen but in all seriousness this was going to be a 2 to 3 year plan. I really think they were hoping to get Crosby but didn't think anyone would offer 2 number ones and then his knee issue might have turned them off. I wonder if we could get Joey Bosa or Arnold Ebiketie on a 1 year deal, then give me Bobby Wagner at LB on a 1 year deal, maybe try to get CB Cobie Durant ( who is pretty small but decent slot CB). And then lets prepare for the draft.

I would have loved to have gotten at least 1 FA linebacker that could push for starting duties but I guess that is just how the cookie crumbles. Bobby Wagner is still out there and playing at a high level.

As much as I think Dean would have played well her. I don’t think the Cowboys will miss him. To me those first round picks could go to 4 spots. I like that.

One counterpoint to this. The two teams in the SB this past season weren't paying one player $60 million. The Patriots also had a boat load of cap space in 2025; and played one of the easiest schedules ever.

Biggest and most important change was getting rid of the flu. He is the worst pro football coach I’ve ever seen and it’s not like Jerry couldn’t have known this before he hired him, he was horrible in Chicago. He leaves and look what happens….playoffs.
Of that list, there are a lot of horrible draft picks in there that didn’t make sense to me on draft day but I do wish we had kept Lewis and Kendricks. Both would’ve helped immensely this past debacle.

if bland and Revel are our 2 starters we get boat raced worse than last season. Revel showed without doubt he can't play yet. He should not see playing time barring an injury. Hes too raw. Bland looks slow and confused. I think his wheels are cooked. Too many Lower leg issues. We need to acquire two capable starters.

Yeah I doubt anyone in the organization came into the offseason thinking we needed to have 2 different starting CB's. I could see one due to Bland foot issue.

But also I am not sure I want to give all the blame to the players. We ran a terrible scheme that didn't play to what our guys did best. And I wasn't sold on the positional coaches Flus brought over to teach his scheme.

I think our defense will surprise a lot of people this year. Will it be top 5? doubt it. But it could be middle of the pack and force a lot more turnovers. Which will be a huge upgrade on defense. (If we do not get hit by the injury bug to key players).

That's interesting coz Brugler mentioned Day-2 is where you could find starters.......especially since this draft doesn't have a lot of blue chippers. Keep in mind that our talent level at certain positions is so low that 2nd- and 3rd-rounders can compete for starting jobs.

We'll be very lucky to pull 3 qualified starters from the draft.

I mentioned it in the Osa thread.

We all watched this defense last year, and the year before. They sucked.

The team has made a deliberate decision to completely overhaul a defense that either completely sucked or collapsed when it mattered most, and I am here for it.

Now, that doesn't mean we are gonna be any good this year, but I am a big fan of starting over.
