Complete defensive rebuild

Asking a 3rd rounder to start day 1 is a big asked. It certainly can happen (lucky) I wonder if a dline position will be in 1st rd.
Here is my post.....
There's a reason I used 'potentially.'

Well, they were never going to do it in one offseason. Keep in mind, we could trade down BOTH 1st-rounders (if we can find a trading partner) and pick up an extra 2nd- or 3rd-round pick. This would mean
1st.....our own
1st.....Packers
2nd....trade down
3rd/2nd....trade down
3rd....Osa
That's potentially 5 new starters if you play your cards right..........remember Jerry said we don't have time for redshirts. We need players hitting the ground running.

If your correct I'm all for it

So go root for the Eagles...who just lost three starters at every level of their defense. Roseman can't keep players or coordinators and two of his three defenses collapsed down the stretch in the last three seasons.
The price of winning Super Bowls.

Exactly what they should do. 5 new defensive players the first two days of the draft is exactly what this D needs.

The wildcard in all of this is the new DC, dont really know what we have/need, would take upgrades anywhere we can get them of course but is he keeping some players because he sees talent and thinks they just needed better coaching? who knows..

My personal thinking is they realized they had a core problem with this team's defense and they needed to get a lot of fresh heads into the mix.

Sure they needed and still need to upgrade several defensive positions, but they are getting rid of depth and not all of it can be explained away as switching to a new defensive system.

I think this is a purge of the old "bad defense" mindsets and replacing them with players from teams who had good or solid defenses or at least not bad defenses.

As for tipping their hand at the draft, only fans think that's some type of secret.

Now, the first round? Sure. A team doesn't want to tip their hand on the positions they'll be after in the first round, though if you're picking in the top 5 and you don't have a franchise quarterback, most people know that's what you're after.

Beyond that though, teams tip their hand long before the draft because the put word out that they're looking for linebackers, cornerbacks, etc. and all teams know what players you signed or traded for to fill those positions.

Teams may know the Cowboys need linebackers, cornerbacks, edge rusher, tackles, etc. but you could create that kind of list for most teams.

What teams don't know is which ones the Cowboys will prioritize in the first round.
Thank you for that, explains it well.

I think this is a very good post and I'm hoping you're correct.

They simply have to change the overall mindset of the defense, whatever it takes, new players, coaches, schemes I don't care but it has to change.

For what seems like forever they've been poor tacklers, they lack aggression, violence, their football intelligence has been severely lacking, they blitz poorly, they over pursue they under pursue it's been pathetic for a very long time.

I don't care if they have all the talent in the world let's just start with guys who will play smart and play hard.

I believe CP will get these guys going, we will go through the good and bad in year 1 but I expect big things come 2027 from them.

??? The Eagles D under Fangio has certainly not collapsed the last two years. Three years ago it did under that crappy DC they had.

I hope you're right Mike.

Game 1 if i see a corner wrap up on a sideline tackle that alone will give me hope. :)

Agreeing with Rockport?

Wow.

Yeah we sure busted the cap alright. In our foot.
If we have been over the cap the whole time, we must have busted it. You keep telling us we have no room and we can't make room. Yet, we can....and haven't.

Yes. I was telling people to relax on the bust the budget talk because it wasnt possible.

As evidenced from the fact they made basically no moves and are a million over the cap after trading away 2 players.

Why isnt this making sense to you?

We had people here saying they were going to sign Hendrickson at 30 million a year and trade for Maxx Crosby lol

Why isn't it making sense to you that they could move money and make either of those moves without a problem?

The literally can still make 15m with Q. Williams. They can make 8.7m with Gary. They can make 8.6m with Bland. They can make 4.8 with Ferguson. That is $37.1m in space. A contract with Crosby or Hendrickson would have easily been able to fit a first year cap under $15m.

If they extended Gary they would make 13.9. If they decided to extend Aubrey, Bass or Pickens they could make a bunch more.

The reason they don't automatically is because it does have effects going forward. You don't just do it to do it. You do it because it makes sense for your overall cap.

That's what you seem to be missing.

Jerry has gone from being the biggest maverick to being the first to fold even with a winning hand. That is the problem. He isn't willing to take chances on being great. When the Rams started trading picks for players, everyone said they were crazy. But then they won a Super Bowl and it was a gamble that paid off. Jerry no longer has the taste for the big win because he is too afraid of the big loss.

There is more money that can be liquidated but it includes signing both Pickens and Aubrey...if they want to max out what they can spend. Gary, Williams, Bland, and Ferguson still remain to be restructured at last check. They have enough to make another substantive FA move in Thompson's salary range...maybe a bit higher if necessary. That would be something approaching "busting the budget". They could also engineer a trade with their 3rd and 5th rounders.

No no. I get that.

What I am saying is if the plan was to go after guys like Hendrickson, why not do it? Why sit there and let every single LB get picked up?

Look I may be jaded. Thats a fair assessment of me.

This team has done nothing to improve since the GB loss. In fact the owner was so spiteful he gave his lame duck HC the worst FA in the history of the team.

If this team was different I think watching them attack the biggest need on this team early would have changed my mind. As of right now, I dont see the plan.

Do you remember when Jerry said "all in"?

Then proceeded to do nothing?

His reasoning was "i didnt realize where we were cap wise when I made those comments"

That is the GM who you are hoping has a plan.
