In Dec 1903, the Wright brothers made the first flight.
Funny thing is, the guy who they had chosen, Langley, was given credit for inventing flight. He had the backing of the Smithsonian, the govt, and the military. The very thought that two uneducated bicycle shop owners could self educate themselves and come up w/ inovative ideas was just unfathomable. To their extreme disgrace, Langley was given credit for this invention for almost 40 yrs by the Smithsonian. Langley's plane, quite simply, would not fly. When they removed the plane at a later date and tried to get it airborne, it rose for like 4 seconds then crashed. His plane quite simply did not fly. And no, they did not like it when the Wright brothers declared it would never fly due to serious construction flaws.
Their wing warping invention is still used on every airplane that flies.
