Concerned About Dan Bailey?

There comes a time when every good kicker loses his magic. I used to kick some pretty long balls playing soccer and people told me to try out a a Giants kicker. I never did as Tony Meola (USA Goalie) never made it to the pro football although he tried. Then came a year I just lost something and couldn't kick as far and that happened in a very short time. I couln't put a finger on it, I attributed to my body mechanics changing. There are times a great base ball hitter suddenly can't hit any more. It happens to them all.
Ala the golf swing

I obviously hope he is going to be OK but history says we've likely seen the last of the superhuman accuracy. How bad he falls off is the question.

There will be a lot more going for it on 4th if analytics are employed which means fewer FG attempts. The fewer the attempts, the less you need the kicker. But when you need the FG, it's generally pretty important (ask Buffalo).

On a team that employs a head coach that relies on a kicker as an offensive weapon, yes that is concerning.

Um...not every drive is going to end in a touchdown , being able to leverage a kicker as an offensive weapon is a luxury every NFL coach would want

Simple - if he goes into a slump, handle it the same way they're handling the receiving corps. Just spread out the lost production among the other players.

Bailey only scored 71 points last year. So that's just a single point more per game for Dak, Zeke and 2 receivers and one Pick 6 by the defense sometime during the season.

I was afraid of this. Just keep kicking and practicing Bailey. If it’s in his head then nothing will help him but practice. He was great and still can be. He is pretty tough. But we can’t have him missing extra points. I guess I can’t get up and mix a drink when it’s FG time. Edge of the seat time. He used to be automatic.

I thought he had been perfect until missing two in very windy conditions the other day. Has there been more info than that?

I always said that the day I have a son that can walk is the day I start teaching him to kick field goals.

Minimal injury risk, no hard hits, the potential to become a legend, and if he became good, could eaen himself several million dollars.

I had 3 daughters, so..... It wasn't in the cards.
Best laid plans sometimes go South.

I remember when Nick Folk suddenly lost it.

It happens. Stay tuned.

Golf.

A girl can get a full ride at a D1 school even if they can't break 120. Thanks to Title IX.

Nick Folk was never great...

Dan Bailey and Justin Tucker are two of the best in the league right now. Heck, they might be top 5 or top 10 in NFL history when it's all said and done.

After last year’s issues, I was a bit concerned. He seemed to start off camp well to assuage fears, but now:

Vanderjagt was never the same again. Seems like kickers get injured, and they can just lose it.

After Bailey's groin injury, I thought he would probably be ok, but also that there was a good chance he would drop off a cliff like Vanderjagt.

Bailey is 30. Not over the hill. But with the training camp struggles, smart money says his reliability won't be bouncing back to money in the bank this season. Maybe never.

Folk fell off a cliff after a couple of seasons, rebounded a bit then fell off again. Bailey is an 8 year veteran who has never fallen off that cliff, his head is fine, if his body is also fine we have nothing to worry about

Bailey fell off that cliff the end of last year after coming back from injury. From the camp reports, he's not near back to the level he was before the injury yet. He may never climb back to the top of the cliff.
