Conjecture: Witten retirement not a done deal by any means

Probably as soon as I click "post," it will be reported what Witten is going to do... that's just how fate seems to work. But just my opinion, if it were as done a deal as some made it out to be over the weekend, we would have some public explicit confirmation already. I think he realizes the MNF gig isn't nearly as coveted as it once was when it was *the* prime time game each week and on a broadcast network, and I think he realizes that ESPN's not exactly been a safe harbor of stability in recent months/years. I believe the other offer might be more tempting, whether that's the Thursday Night game with a broadcast network, Fox... or as some are floating, an offer to do SEC games on CBS. But what seems certain is there's nothing for-certain.

Just please end of this speculation, Witt should take the TV offer , he was done for some time , Only injustice is because of the JG and Jerry , both himself and Romo never got to sniffing distance of a SB. When finally OL dominance was achieved D was a sieve. JG's inability to use latest offensive schemes and putting the personnel in best possible way to succeed and sticking to his age old offensive philosophy is what caused him to be missing the chance of a ring

Witten has decided to retire and they are just ironing out the announcement proceedings. Guy is a first ballot Hall of Famer and a class man. Was truly privileged to watch him play for my favorite team.

I think the timing is right as Witten really seemed to have lost some ability last season. For a guy that has been at the top of the league at his position for 15 years, that has to be hard to take. I think he would have played this season without the MNF offer, but ultimately it would have slowed the progress of the passing game.

All things considered Witten has (on the field) been a net negative the last year or two.

I for one love him for what he's meant the last decade and a half as a Cowboy. Maybe Mr. Cowboy himself.

Loved his toughness, leadership and moxie. But the sun has set.

I love Witten but he's not nearly the player he once was and honestly if they are trying to turn over the offense and remake it, it's better if Witten just moves on and we start fresh right now.

He still more than capable of moving the chains as he always has 63 catches 5 less than Dez yet was thrown to fewer times. I don't blame Witten if in the end he takes the job with MNF but I have no doubts if he choose to play this season he can still be reliable safety net who can move the chains.

Demarcus Ware called... he said it's ridiculous, in his opinion, to conclude that an older player should get gone unless/until you have an heir apparent ready to step up.

I think that's pretty darn reasonable if you ask me.

I'd like him back one last year so his career could be celebrated during the season. However, what's best for Witt is too take this great opportunity, and ride off into the sunset like every cowboy dreams of doing.

Spend more quality time with his family without risking major injury. Godspeed number 82. You've left it all on the field of battle, and always conducted yourself with honor and integrity. It's time you took the path away from the battlefield to enjoy a life free from the rigors of the game.

Its more likely that Ware comes out of retirement than Witten NOT retiring.

These guys have played football their whole life. Walking away is not an easy decision
I think the offer is too good to walk away from but I fully see how it takes some time to reconcile that your days of playing the game you love have come to an end
