Demarcus Ware called... he said it's ridiculous, in his opinion, to conclude that an older player should get gone unless/until you have an heir apparent ready to step up.

I think that's pretty darn reasonable if you ask me.

He still more than capable of moving the chains as he always has 63 catches 5 less than Dez yet was thrown to fewer times. I don't blame Witten if in the end he takes the job with MNF but I have no doubts if he choose to play this season he can still be reliable safety net who can move the chains.

Witten has not been a deep threat he has been a key in blocking and moving the chains, 5 yards? please the guy would come up with key catches and keep drives alive. Beats the hell out of punting it away. As for scaring teams? they managed to try different combos on him and he still manages to get open. You want to keep a defense honest? you do it with outside speed at WR but the role of a traditional TE is to help in the running game and as a receiver and Witten is still one of the tops in doing that. Again whatever he choose I wish him the best but the man is still capable of doing the job that is asked of the TE

If he's made up his mind to go to TV, then it's true he wouldn't be at voluntary workouts.

Probably as soon as I click "post," it will be reported what Witten is going to do... that's just how fate seems to work. But just my opinion, if it were as done a deal as some made it out to be over the weekend, we would have some public explicit confirmation already. I think he realizes the MNF gig isn't nearly as coveted as it once was when it was *the* prime time game each week and on a broadcast network, and I think he realizes that ESPN's not exactly been a safe harbor of stability in recent months/years. I believe the other offer might be more tempting, whether that's the Thursday Night game with a broadcast network, Fox... or as some are floating, an offer to do SEC games on CBS. But what seems certain is there's nothing for-certain.

There are no openings on any #1 teams other than ESPN. Unless he wants to be announcing the Browns and Jets games, ESPN is the best gig.
And who wouldn't want that gig. Maybe with Witten, many Cowboys fans tune in just to hear him, as they did Tony.
Maybe ESPN thinks Witten can bring MNF back to a Feature game.

I usually have MNF on no matter what most of the time. May not always finish the game, depending the teams and playoff implications, but I tune in at the start.

and last year it took quite a while with all the Tony retirement ordeal, once we came down from thinking a team would trade for him.

Back to Witten who is also being heavily courted both by Cowboys’ head coach Jason Garrett and owner Jerry Jones, both of whom want him to play one more season with the franchise that drafted him in 2003.

Witten is the Cowboys’ all-time receptions and receiving yardage leader; he also is a former NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year and heralded as an exemplary model for an athlete giving back to the community. He hosts numerous charitable endeavors in the Dallas area annually, as well as his youth football camp in his hometown of Elizabethton, TN.

Sources also indicated Witten could have interest in a front-office role for the Cowboys when his playing days officially conclude. They said Witten has studied the path of current San Francisco 49ers GM and former All-Pro safety John Lynch.

I don't know if this is even on the table with Witten and the Cowboys. I think if the Cowboys want him to remain this may be a way to have him remain with the organization now and after he retires

Just please end of this speculation, Witt should take the TV offer , he was done for some time , Only injustice is because of the JG and Jerry , both himself and Romo never got to sniffing distance of a SB. When finally OL dominance was achieved D was a sieve. JG's inability to use latest offensive schemes and putting the personnel in best possible way to succeed and sticking to his age old offensive philosophy is what caused him to be missing the chance of a ring

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the subject & hope he does what is best for Jason Witten. Either way, I'm good and will remain thankful for his contributions to the cause. It's a shame he never got a trophy.

Just like Dez and the Ravens, if Witten turns down the contract/opportunity, he's a fool.

These type of deals/opportunities typically happen once in a lifetime.

If he turns it down, the network will move onto the next guy and leave Witten in their rearview forever.

MNF is not NEARLY the same asset that many of us grew up with... hence its relegation from national broadcast to cable.

It's not chopped liver. But for anyone who is highly regarded and lusted over... whether Witten or Peyton Manning... there are going to be opportunities.

If he does leave, I kinda like what Broaddus said in the podcast I was listening to... Witten seems like he would be especially suited to the college booth... and too... l also don't doubt that his broader view includes coaching eventually.

The longer we go without hearing something, the more it makes people wonder, but I still believe Witten has to be gone. Even if MNF isn't as coveted as it once was, it's still a damn sweet gig for a guy with no broadcast experience at all to jump into as his first job. Maybe he is weighing another offer from ESPN, but at the end of the day I think he will be working in TV this year.
