Connor Williams had a solid game against Jets

once again you are cherry picking a single pic.
If you watch the play in full speed you see Conor place his hand on Fred’s man and having zero impact with supposed help.

Jets had 2 players lined up on the left side ready to blitz along with DE whose responsibility would be the LT. So how was Connor supposed to help Fred with a DT when there are 2 extra defenders ready to come in, #47 bailed for coverage but his first responsibility was the other blitzer.

The play at 3:45 getting pushed back the most out the 3 interior guys, of course Dak releases it on time

@ABQCOWBOY

The image you (DA_09) posted does not match what happened at 3:45 in the video.

ABQ is correct again.

It was textbook execution by CW picking up that stunt.

That was a 3T - 1T stunt. The 3T is in front with the 1T looping behind him.

CW passes the 3T (#92) to Frederick and then CW picks up the stunting 1T (#95).

Kid really does have good feet X. There is a lot to like about him, it's just unfortunate that he is so light in the pants. If he was a little stronger, he could really be an excellent young LG I think. As it is, I think he could be a real good LT but he's a Guard now so gotta get him better every game. Fred is really who I am concerned with. I've started watching him and he is struggling. It's gonna take some time for him to get back to where he was but he just seems like he does not have that raw power like he used to. Hope it comes back.

But you're missing my point multiple ways.

The OP says Williams "had a solid game". I replied with PFF, giving him a low score. If you want to put me on a "side" for what I've said here, that would be the attacking Williams side.

But I'm not really attacking him. Just countering the OP's opinion with another with a known methodology.
I didn't miss your point at all. You said his score was in the 50s for the jets game and needs to be benched. I quoted you agreeing with you and even added that his score for the entire season is low (not just the jets game) and he's a deteriment to the team

I didn't miss your point at all, if anything I strengthed it

Maybe the play below is the one you (DA) are actually referencing.

It's not the one at 3:45 in the video but it is the one in the still image that you posted.

It's perfect execution of picking up a blitz.

The Jets showed blitz by #47 between LG-LT but he dropped and #33 blitzed from outside the LT.

Fleming hands off the DE to CW and Fleming picks up the blitzing #33.

Agree.

His execution on things like picking up stunts and picking up blitzes is already really good.

Those are issues that La'el always struggled with when he played OG.

I think CW is strong enough now for Zone Run blocking but they use a mix of man and zone.

He would be terrific in the Rams blocking scheme but the 2019 Cowboys Run Blocking Scheme is a mess.

PFF uses people with zero experience to "grade film".

Could be, but that's even a better example of his excellent footwork and technique. I don't know what would be the issue there?

Problem is, that scheme doesn't really fit Fredbeard. I think it's a mistake to even try it but what do I know?

But I agree, he's a wet dream for the Broncos OL teams of the 90s.

Probably speaks more to what Darnold said, after the game. Teams are way too familiar with our scheme. If you are gonna run something, regardless of what the opposition does to try and stop you, then you better have a very talented, very intelligent, well coached team. Right now, I'm not sure we can claim any one of those three things is true.

IDK.

The last 2 are out for sure.

Fire Colombo! If the OL isn’t performing, even with backup JAGS at OT, diseased and injured interior, still, look at SF and others. It has to be Colombo’s fault, right?!

Receivers keep dropping passes....fire Sanjay!

Witten is old and slow.....fire the coach!

Fire the kicking coach! he sucks if he can’t get Maher to make those short ones

There was no good option for Martin/Knight.

It was not a good play design or play call.

Dak moving left with Witten continuing left would have been a better play.
Everybody knew it was an all out blitz. Garrett even wasted a timeout, should have took three time to get the best 2 point conversion play possible. I see other teams not have issues on the goal line, but Garrett can't seem to run anything remotely helpful.

Martin back-peddled like a DB knowing there would be more pass rushers than blockers.

It's similar to what Bill Callahan implemented with the Cowboys from 2012 to 2014 and they continued for 2015 & 2016 with Frank Pollack.

The Rams Zone scheme, like Callahan's scheme does not require those smaller, quicker players like the players preferred by the Broncos with Shanahan & OL coach Alex Gibbs.

They need reasonable quickness but Frederick is well within the requirements for the Callahan or Rams type zone scheme.

I originally thought that Callahan would not want Frederick, but it turns out his requirements were significantly different from the Alex Gibbs prototype.

I don't love the scheme we seem to be using but the problem here is not the scheme, necessarily. The problem is the execution and a lot of what I am seeing is Center. I know nobody wants to hear that. Hell, I don't want to say it but Fred is struggling out there and teams are using it against us. They are putting us in situations where we can't lend help so basically testing Williams, who BTW, is really doing a pretty nice job of recognizing situations and reacting to them properly. Now, he still has problems with Power and I doubt that's ever going to go away but so far as just seeing what's happening on the field and just understanding and reacting to them correctly, he's doing really well thus far. That's a lot, and I mean A LOT of it along the OL. If you have an OL who understands what's happening on the field, that's a very valuable asset. Anyway, that's what you are seeing. Teams are selectively targeting different players all along our OL and using a scheme that isolates them all so that you can't easily lend help. The issue for us is that we are so vulnerable, all along the OL right now, because of injury, that we can't even identify where the Defense will focus their efforts, to even try and properly devise a strategy to lend help.
