Connor Williams

No PFF is not gospel. They are wrong A LOT! I didn't read what they said but if it is touting "bad" plays being not getting the almost impossible scoop blocks he "missed" as being "bad", then I have no use for them.

I do like the draft pick and I know he is going to be a very good player for us. The fact that he is already one of the best in the league (IMO) at pulling and leading is amazing. Again, anyone expecting domination in aspects of the game in his 2nd game of his career against a couple of Pro Bowlers is overreacting.
We don’t expect domination. But we do expect him to NOT BE DOMINATED!!! So far he’s been dominated in the worst way possible.

Not even close. Dominated is what Chaz Green did. Conner literally was asked to make an impossible block multiple times and got his leg caught on another bull rush. Another Atkins beat him initially but he recovered to ride him around the qb.

Do people understand how this game is played?

Whatever. :facepalm:I guess we are all wrong and you are the only one who’s correct? Ok Genius

Ya, I guess i am.

CASE AND POINT....from your beloved PFF (aka the bastion of truth).. "and he struggled in space on pull-lead plays."

On what planet did he struggle in space? He was GREAT in space. Keep trusting these idiots....

I never quoted PFF as biblical. I don’t even read it. I make my own evaluations.

Starting to notice him getting pushed around some. He may take a bit to develop, to be expected....

Sorry, that was Superonyx....my apologies.

My point remains however....this is the type of analysis people rely on and it is just completely useless.

I actually used my own eyes to see hm struggle.
You are pretending that any play he was beaten on was a play that was impossible to make.
He got dominated on 8 plays out of 33. I’ve watched these plays multiple times and there is no way to polish that turd....but I’m sure you will try.

Any analysis you don’t agree with becomes “fake news” I guess.

We all like Connor and we can all objectively say he struggled so far.
Why can’t you?

Williams is going to be OK IMO. He does need to improve and get stronger but that will come. I mean you guys know that he was not a guard at Texas right? His natural position is LOT. It's going to take him some time to get the position down and it's going to take reps for the muscle memory needed.

Because he didn't struggle. This is like the Dak can't throw the ball downfield argument, it is a talking point that somehow became factual by the lemming masses.

You cannot tell me that it is Connor's fault on the running plays going away from him where the DT is lined up head up with the center and the ball goes that way. That is an impossible block to make even sometimes. I believe that the center called the wrong blocking assignment or was supposed to at least slow him down. But hey, that is his fault and I see that kind of miss all of the time on the cowboys...maybe it is our blocking scheme.

So that is 2 "Struggles". That leaves 6 more. The first bull rush, his right leg was caught on the center and he nearly fell over because of it. Is that because he isn't strong enough? Really? If he wasn't strong enough, he would have been toppled backwards.

So that leaves 5. "Struggled" on another play where Atkins shot the gap to his left and Connor rode him around the qb who completed the ball with little effort. Ya, guess what, you are going to have those occasionally. He recovered and gave his qb time.

He "struggled" on the play where the DT swam him quickly and the center picked him up. Hmmm...ok, not great. But it literally was inconsequential to the play as it was going to the right.

I don't even remember any of the other "struggles". All i know is he was really good in the straight line run blocking which flies in the face of he isn't strong enough. I also know that he was VERY good in the pulling game...amazing even.

You Sir are delusional. Williams is at least a year away from being very good or amazing. Stop it. Please.

Connor isn’t going to be able to handle guys like Buckner and Atkins 1v1 but that isn’t surprising for a rookie. That’s Zack’s job. Connor will be valuable moving in space

I hate saying this but Connor Williams gets beat on so many plays. Last week was bad and people just assumed it was jitters....then tonight he was beaten by his man on way too many plays in the passing and running game.

I think it’s becoming a concern.
We all know he looks small for a guard. I’m not sure if he is playing out of position or if maybe he just isn’t very good at this point and may be a liability this season.

We may have assumed since we hit on so many OL in recent years that we would hit on this one as well.

Thoughts?[/QU
First look who he was playing against Geno Atkins is one of the most powerful DTs in the league if not the most. He is a tank. Secondly Connor Williams is a 21 year old rookie who is strong but he doesn't have enough weight yet which means he will have to rely on technique for this whole year as he gets stronger and bigger. Hes only 295. He needs to get to that 310 range. Looking at him he is going to stack his weight with only good muscle which is going to take time. Once he gets that weight and extra strength he is going to be a beast. He should end up like Zack Martin. He has the technique and the will but like the old folks would say "you don't have enough backside to contend quite yet. He still has the size of a young college lineman. He isn't even 300 lbs yet, but like I said he's only 21 and I think he just turned 21

I think this kid was brought in for one purpose only, mobility. When we see the real offense opening day, he'll be pulling, blocking down, and trapping.

What about pass protection? That’s a necessity, ya know?
