The Cowboys are 2-2-1 after 5 weeks and they are exactly what their record says they are - mediocre. What makes a team mediocre (besides their record) is the lack of consistency. Not being consistently good or consistently bad.

Good teams are consistently good. Bad teams are consistently bad. Consistency is the key ingredient in determining what a team is. Mediocre teams are good sometimes, not good other times. Mediocre teams often have a lot of young players that can look great one week, then not great the next. So far, that’s us.

Until the Cowboys gain some consistency, they will remain mediocre.

Looking at both sides of the ball, other than the bears game, the offense has been consistently good as the league stats show. Other than most of the jets game, the defense has been consistently bad, ranked at the bottom of the league.

What will ultimately decide whether this team is a playoff contender or not is simple - Can they be more consistent on both sides of the ball?

Unless they can find some way to improve defensively, this gone be a loonnnggg season.

After 5 games I feel like we still don't know about this Cowboys team. But I agree they are inconsistent. Shutting down Philly in the 2nd half, except for 3 points then giving up all that yardage and points to the Giants is a great example. The defense has been pretty consistent though - consistently bad. I keep hearing how they will get better as they get more comfortable with the scheme but we heard that when Nolan was here too. He also simplified things to help them pick it up better.

I don't know what this team can do. But this defense has looked really really bad at times, most of the time.

It will be interesting to see if the defense can start being consistently better. If not, obviously this won’t be a playoff team.

And, if the Cowboys are once again mediocre - like 8-8-1 or 7-9-1…we get stuck in the mediocre draft position. Ugh.

Absolutely agree. This goes down from team to individual player too. At this level everyone is good. Every team is capable of winning some games. Every player is capable of having some splash plays. Every coach is capable of looking like a genius for a week. At the highest level it's less about what you can do, thats the part us fans buy too much into. The important part in player/coach/team evaluation is going to be how frequently you can perform at a high level.

I could just be wishful thinking, but I have seen good signs. This team, despite their flaws, seems to be playing with higher intensity than I've seen in many years. Dak is not folding when we get punched in the mouth. We played last week with 6 out of our 11 starters out and still blew out the Jets. That's high intensity football. The Jets may suck, but they are still a pro football team. They should compete against backups. It's still early, but the next 3 weeks will tell us a lot.

That's what I've been saying the last couple of days leading up to the Panthers game...

This TEAM needs better buckle up and get it done,

because if you don’t win 2 in a row, then last week win means nothing, absolutely needs to get on a 3 to 4 game Win Streak, that way you know what kind of team you have before the trade deadline, and if you think you’re a piece away, you make the trade.

But right now, I’m not impressed on just Beating the Jets, unless you literally beat the Panthers and make it more than competitive. Go out there and beat the snot out of them..

You have an opportunity right now They tied the Packers they beat the Jets and now they need to start doing the follow up get in a groove and start on a win streak start getting players back find out who you really are...

People been talking about going out and making a trade well you can't do that unless all the above happens before the trade deadline you need to be sitting in a very good spot making it worth using some assets on a player that can help you maybe go further this year if not either stand pat Take this as a year one for this coaching staff as a building block Have a solid year and then use your assets in the offseason to really make a jump in 2026..

I actually feel like this season is flying by. Seems like its just started but we've already had 5 games.
It's because the Cowboys are just a constant roller coaster which by the way takes your breath away it's up it's down it's going fast it slows down and almost breaks your back to a complete stop LOL...

The team needs to definitely beat the Jets and do it looking better and improved because I believe this could be the turning point of the season in Washington we are going to get a lot of opportunities to have a handful if not more players coming back like most of them will be back if the coaches want to activate them there'll be an opportunity to make all the changes they want to go on a run..

IF They lose, they're going to be less motivated to activate some of these players because it won't matter, they'll let them heal up more, let these young players get more opportunities..

About all the players that could come back like Lamb, Turpin, Booker, BB, Beebee, with Carson, Mingo, Butler, and Revel on notice ..

But I'd like to know why they are dragging their feet on activating who we know probably didn't have much of an injury at all and was stashed I'd like to see Mafah Added to this RB rotation, Miles Sanders is hurt ,it's a perfect opportunity, I know Blue will get another opportunity and I think he's going to have a much better game, but we need to start prepping Mafah, because he can do similar things that Williams can do in case something happens to Williams, I'd like to see this guy play...

Consistency to me is on aspect of this team doing well while the other isn't. At this point the offense is looking great, but we've seen that switch where the offense will look bad and the D will look good. Hoping both sides get it together to be consistent

As Parcells always said, talk to me after Thanksgiving. I’ve said this for a billion times, this is a new team with new players and all new coaches. Every year, teams must establish themselves and continuously build and improve from game 1 until and hopefully all the way to the big dance. Even KC is lost right now but they could very well end up there when it’s all said and done.

The Cowboys always seem to find new ways to innovate mediocrity.

They decided to add a tie game into the equation this year because just being 2-2 is not good enough. :D

Hopefully they continue improving as the season progresses.

Well in this case I'm not sure you can wait till after Thanksgiving Let's just hope before the trade deadline the Cowboys have a better idea of what their actual team looks like and possibly adding a player to help them win a couple extra games and maybe get to the playoffs you have to assess it a little early this year..

The next three games are important if somehow they can beat the Panthers Washington and then have a shot at at least competing and looking good with Denver..maytybe they pull the trigger

Because a tie with the Packers, a win against the Jets, Panthers, and Washington, shows consistency and then showing where you stack up against Denver, might give you some reason to bring another player in...

I think you need to watch one of our games and focus on Sanborn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Waiting until Thanksgiving includes anything and everything that happens before that to improve the team.

I suppose Jerry mandated them get a tie? I know you were being sarcastic but come on man….

You can't the trade deadline is over the free agent pool will be dried up do you not understand this is needs to be assessed quickly with a nice little run here before the trade deadline which I believe is 11-5... let's put that deadline on say halloween LOL because it's getting spooky around here.. :muttley: .

As far as the fans go sure if they want to wait I'm just telling you from a coach's standpoint in a GM and the owner of the Dallas Cowboys he needs to know a little quicker...

Right that 'd be more of a league thing because I'm pretty sure the referees and the clock die screw that up there was no time left for them to kick that field goal we both know it There's no way to prove it and once again somehow a Packers game ends in controversy...
