Has he been scheming all along to land Mike Shannahan as Head Coach while still retaining Wade as Defensive Coordinator?

First he said he was going to focus on continuity and bringing back the coaching unit.

Then Shannahan shows up on the market.

Jerry then schemes how to to land him without going back on his word.

He talks with Garrett and gets him to do job interviews, letting him know he's completely fed up with all the reports he's getting that our playbook is the laughing stock of the NFL. He tells him he'll give him a chance to get promoted out of here before he lowers the boom.

Then when he gets news of Garrett's hiring in St. Louis (before it's known publicly), he quickly releases Stewart to set the table for a forced reality that there is no longer a coaching structure left with Garrett gone once that news is publicly released.

What this does is present a reality that Jerry had no choice but to revise his original plan. It's a face saver.

He can then present the situation to Wade and say he has to re-structure anyway, and that Wade has two options:
1. Be fired and best of luck finding a DC job somewhere, as that's all he'll get.
2. Be retained as DC and joined with a new Head Coach.

Wade, seeing that the move can be done with little loss of pride (since he no longer has co-ordinators and other coaches under him on offense) will accept the demotion, paving the way to hire Shannahan smoothly.

Jerry's a moron. He's fast approaching Al Davis level. He has no clue how to build a team and obviously doesn't want a HC with any power at all. This team will never win anything important as long as he keeps running things this way.

Gruden was barely a .500 coach after he won the Super Bowl with Tony Dungy's team. He's the ultimate Switzer clone if there ever was one.

For less money than Garrett demanded. :bang2:

Just speculation.

What I think happened:

1) The Rams were set on Garrett and thought a 4 year 12 million contract would seal the deal. Arrange flight to St. Louis.

2) Garrett's wife balks at the "pay cut" as she thought he would be getting paid more over the next few years since in the NFL salaries get structured for annual increases. Tells him she hates St. Louis and prefers the great state of Texas. Garrett, the whimp, takes her orders and balks at the contract. The Cardinals don't budge and talks stall.

3) The Cardinals offer their second choice, Spags, the same contract deal and he says hell yes.

4) Garret is sent packing back to Dallas. :bang2:

Jason Garrett was interviewing to manage the MLB team??

Don't get me started on Gruden. Why would he even be in the discussion?

You think we have December swoons? He just lost the last 4 of the season when one win would have ultimately given them the WC. And the last game was against Oakland.

There are warts on all candidates left now.
Gruden never did much after his first year- and remember him and Key?
Imagine him and TO.

Shanahan has done SQUAT since Elway retired and Terrel Davis tore up his knee. This is the same coach that wasted three years on Jake the Snake.

Cowher won 1 SB with the help of the refs (though one could argue that only with the help of Odonnel did he lose the one to us) and wasted how many years trying to make Kordel Stewart into a QB?
