Before Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys he was going to buy the Chargers in 1966.

[Jerry Jones asked Hoffa's Teamsters for a loan to buy the Chargers in 1966]

Wonder if he missed a payment, if he would have had endzone seats in the Meadowlands next to Hoffa.

My dad always teased me that the NFL was rigged and that goes back 30 years or more. I never agreed and the suggestion would rile me up. He knew that which is partially why he teased, but he also believed rigging to be real. I still don't but I do begin to wonder if some aspects and to a limited degree might be compromised. I hope not.

The 500 thing makes a little sense the way it was presented because following the money often leads to the truth. Again, I hope it's not a real thing. Conspiracy requires secrecy and secrecy depends on limited informed participants. The main problem I see is accounting for basically 30 years of mediocrity after elite success. So, I think the real problem is the Jerry Jones isn't the football guru he thinks he is.

Thoughts?

The merchandise argument leaves out one important fact. At the time Jerry settled his merchandise lawsuit with the NFL, the Cowboys made up 16% of total merch revenues. Part of the settlement requires the NFL to still get their 16% while anything above that all stays with the Cowboys. The entire argument is based on a flawed premise.

Here's a theory: Jerry's a lot better at making money than he is at assessing football talent. How much is he paying Dak Prescott and Zeke Elliott, again?
