Continuing disturbing offensive trend

http://www.nflpenalties.com/team/dallas-cowboys?year=2016

A look at our penalties throughout the year. The offensive penalties have ticked up in the last half just a bit.

I guess I just notice more with the tight games we have had the past 6. We were so dominant in the first half of the season that we overcame a lot of them but in the last few games offensive penalties have killed drives!

Not to be Debbie Downer amidst this incredible 12-2 season, but there continue to be offensive concerns.

Dallas drove for only one TD against Minnesota, one against New York, and one against Tampa Bay in successive weeks.

This offense has to start finishing drives again to win in the playoffs.
Let me finish it for you

Quick put Romo in!

Did you just call for more Lucky Whitehead? That's probably a first around here. What's next a thread celebrating Dunbar? Oh right
....

Yea, I regretted even typing that :lmao:

But, since the coaches insist that he be used, he needs a bit more routes to become less predictable IMO.

And was completely unecessary. The threat of jet sweep is one thing but to keep putting ball in Whiteheads hands instead of the guy that was just chewing up TB was startlingly stupid.

I agree. When you are killing them just handing the ball to the RB, why do you feel the need to try a trick play. Between the jet sweep and the reverse it made no sense.

And it doesn't even matter if they play worked. The reverse might have made big yards but it just was something you didn't need. Keep that in the back pocket for a game where you need a spark of some sort.

Sssshhhhh! This is not on the agenda for today -- today, it's all about Dak's wonderful completion percentage and how he showed all of Romo's supporters that he is the guy! Ssssshhhh!!! LOL.

What's concerning is the offensive penalties that have wiped out some big plays including a beautiful TD throw by Dak last night, forcing us to have to settle for a FG. That's at least the second or third TD throw Dak has had wiped out this season due to a penalty. Zeke has had two big plays negated due to penalties. Our first two drives were stalled due to penalties that put us behind the chains. We've been our own worst enemy. It seems like every time we have a nice play it's called back due to a penalty.

No passing TDs is a problem. 1.4 passing TDs a game is not going to get it done. You can blame penalties if you want but this has been a problem ALL YEAR even when we had few penalties.

Eh, some of those holding calls are so subjective, hard to get too upset with the players. That holding call on Leary was completely bogus. It's the entirely preventable penalties/mishaps that drive me nuts, illegal motion on offense because a guy can't remember the snap count, forgetting to run out of bounds because player is not aware of game clock, fumbling a ball when losing possession immediately ends the game, too many players on the field, etc.

It's hard to sustain methodical long drives.

I can't complain but if I did I'd wish we took a shot or two more deep.

Dak through a few longer passes that were beauties but we never tried over the top deep even once.

They were a little more aggressive than they had been which is better than the last 3 games. You will not see Dak throw into tight windows like Winston can. Dak just doesn't have that velocity but if he can continue to limit his pick s and get that passing TD per game ratio up above 2 we can compete with this run game and improving defense.

We also need to do a better job of getting into better FG range for Bailey, who has missed a few of these the last few weeks.

The announcers are a poor choice for an appeal to authority (which is not a good idea to begin with).

The announcers are unbiased professional observers of the sport. I value their opinion and comments. One of the best was when they laughed at the notion of a QB controversy in Dallas. That was priceless

If..then we can compete? What would you call what they have done so far?

Dak hit Butler and Dez in the hands with the ball in the endzone in consecutive weeks and they dropped it.

The Dunbar TD was callled back. I don't know what Tyron was thinking on that play.
