The entire NFL will be watching what happens with Dak. Do they pay him another top contract or let him walk and see what Trey can do assuming they come to terms with Trey. They can manipulate the cap, release some vets to make room if they choose. They had better make signing bland a priority.

2024 cap already in the hole.

And that’s with the 10.5 million carry over from the 2023 cap.

Someone isn’t getting mega millions next season. (Dak)
Dak currently has a $60m cap hit. He's going to cost close to half of that with an extension.

They are already in cap trouble for 2024.

There is a way out though.

Some won’t like it.

But necessary.

Lance.
Omg how do people still think this is reasonable?

You'd be paying Dak ~$25m (assuming June 1 cut), Lance $5m, and another vet who knows how much. Spending more than you would by extending Dak to roll with Trey Lance, and then having to turn around and give Lance $50m after.

Just such a dumb plan.

They don’t.

Cap is always going up and you always kick the can down the line.

Saints have been over for years. Browns are 84 million over next year already.
Browns are 84 million over already. Ouch, that Deshaun Watson contract looks worse and worse each day.

The Cap is only a hindrance for teams that have trouble saying "bye" to players who aren't getting it done.

It's only a hindrance for teams who think staying relevant is more important than winning it all.
