Interesting salary cap note, Spotrac posted the new salary numbers for Terrence Williams and Nolan Carroll and both are very good deals from the Cowboys perspective.

Terrence Williams has a 5 Million bonus spread over 4 years with a 1 Million salary in 2017, then 3.5 Million in 2018 and 2019 with 4 Million in 2020.

He has a cap hit of only 2.25 Million next year, only about 600K more than his cap hit last year. Only 2017 and 2018 are guaranteed salary. Several reports have said he had a big offer from another team that they pulled at the last minute so he came back to Dallas quickly. Works out well for us cap wise.

Nolan Carroll signed for a 3 Million dollar bonus with salaries of 1 Million in 2017 and 3 Million in 2018 and 2019. None of the salaries are guaranteed. Very good contract for the team considering Carroll is a solid CB.

This is a good deal for the Cowboys, and maybe not so bad for TWill. Yes, he's not getting the guaranteed money that some other WRs are getting, but his 30th and 31st age years salaries are reasonable at 3.5 and 4, so he has a very good chance at being valuable enough to collect the entire contract, where some deals have backloaded non-guaranteed salaries the player might not ever see.

Yet for the team, if he falls on his face he can be pretty easily cut in 2 years. He's not my favorite player but I can't find anything to complain about since we have so many other holes to fill.

Hard to argue with getting those players in todays NFL salaries world...

Figured Twill would get Sanu money...

Nolan got peanuts beside his nice signing bonus

To bad they wouldn't use the benefits from these 2 contracts to bring in a solid pass rushing DE.

Exactly, if he is cut in 2 years the dead money is only 2.5 Million.

One issue is that Carroll might not be a "solid" CB. He was brutal last year but people are assuming that it was just a system change that led to his struggles.

He was a mediocre CB even before last year. He's not as good as Carr or Claiborne. If one of those two aren't back, we have taken a step back at CB and are hoping that the draft delivers an immediate impact at CB.

Williams' was a very nice signing, however.

Well the good is it looks like we can cut him after this year with minimal implications if he doesn't work out. The scary part is that Caroll had the benefit of a pretty good pass rush and still ranks among the bottom of CB in the league. Looks like we overpaid here.

Only thing I can say is that I would have rather the cowboys front load the TWill deal instead of back loading it. Not a terrrible price IMO.

Twill can't even catch the ball with his hands. Has to use his chest first. Can't stand him as a #2 receiver.

But you have him signed through age 30. Dallas will have a huge amount of cap space available in 2018, if you want to move the move the money around you can convert his out year salaries into a large bonus next year to accomplish the same thing as frontloading the contract.

How was he brutal? I'm seriously asking, not being a turd. Because I hear Broaddus talk about how he was able to guard Dez, AB and Odell and I'm led to think otherwise.

  1. Keeping all the pieces in place is a good thing for a 2nd year QB
  2. This doesn't stop us from drafting a WR
  3. The offensive focus must be on RB depth (resign McFadden and draft someone), finding another OT Green starts but another option needed), and TE (unless Swaim and Hanna are both 100% or a great receiver becomes available)
  4. The defensive focus will be on DE, CB, S (no lbs and probably no DT's unless a true stud is BPA)

Guys, Nolan pretty much sucks. He was basically bottom 10% of CBs last year. Not exactly sure why people are happy with this.

..and well. TWill had less than 600 yards receiving last year and that was with Dez, Witten, Zeke, and Dak threats that the defense had to contend with above and beyond TWill. Yeah, that isn't worth $4.25M/year
