Before New Contract:
2019: 17M

New Contract Extension:
  • 4 years, $140M (35M AAV).
    • Both OTC and Spotrac list it as 35M AAV.

New Contract Structure:
2019 $70M (53M new + 17M previous)
2020 $18M
2021 $19M
2022 $24M
2023 $26M

Notice:
  • Pay for 2019 changed.
  • New Pay spread over 5 years.
  • Extension still 4 NEW years.
  • Extension AAV based on 4 years, NOT 5.
  • Total Pay from 2019 to 2023 is 157M (140M new plus 17M previous).

The extension AAV is NOT 157M / 5 = 31.4M.

Summary for Wilson:
Extension AAV 35M over 4 years, NOT 31.4M over 5 years.

Carson Wentz

Neither OTC or Spotrac have the NEW Contract Structure for Wentz:

NEW Extension: 4 years, 128M

Previous Contract Structure
2019 $4.09M (due from previous contract)
2020 $22.78M (due from 5th year extension of previous contract)

New Contract Structure
2019 Existing Year
2020 Existing Year
2021 NEW Year
2022 NEW Year
2023 NEW Year
2024 NEW Year

The NEW Extension is 4 years, 128M with an AAV = 32M.

He will receive money from the NEW extension in 2019 and 2020; however, the NEW extension is based on 4 years at 128M, NOT 6 years at 154.68M.

The NEW Extension AAV is NOT 154.68M / 6 = 25.78M.

Summary for Wentz:
Extension AAV 32M over 4 years, NOT 25.78M over 5 years.

Overall Summary:
New QB contracts should be compared to the real AAVs for previous QB contracts:
Wilson: 35M real AAV
Wentz: 32M real AAV

So I wonder how much they will be paying Dak per year. I figured 30 would be a good deal for us..

You have to be some kind of stupid to think Wentz signed a 25m / year contract

I seriously don't think your wrote this yourself....plagerism is a crime.

All joking aside...unti Dak can prove he can handle a Kellen Moore offense...I don't see why you should extend him. Chances are he struggles...then your stuck w/ an untradeable contact like Lev'eon Bell's.

Be smart....don't put yourself in that situation. You can control him for 3 more years for less than half of what Wentz is going to make.

final year... + 2 franchise tags...if necessary...

Regardless....Unless he has a Mahomes type year...I'm not giving in...and even then..I might even trade him.

You just can't pay one guy a boat load of money and keep a quality team together.

I don't know why the Eagles signed Wentz now.

They had him under contract for 2 more years and could Franchise him after that.

The Eagles must be expecting QB contracts to increase drastically.

Russell Wilson signed his 2nd contract in 2015 for 22M AAV. His recent contract AAV is 35M which is 160% of the previous AAV.

Using the 32M AAV for Wentz & the rate of inflation from Wilson's contracts, Dak's projected AAV based on what year he is signed:

Year
Signed ........ AAV

If .. 2019 ….. 32M
If .. 2020 ….. 35.9M
If .. 2021 ….. 40.4M ….. (Franchised for 2020)
If .. 2022 ….. 45.3M ….. (Franchised for 2021)
If .. 2023 ….. 50.9M ….. (Franchised for 2022)

Why? There is no guarantee they will get paid the entire contract. It is really only the guaranteed portion that is solid. Besides, 4 year contract or whatever, if you are tacking on years, it can be spread against the entire life of the contract so I kinda don't agree here.

We are paying him a lot of that 32m aav outside of the 4 extension years. We essentially merged the 2 contracts as both are paying him out over the next 2 years.

So 32m aav for the extension alone is true in a vacuum, but it’s not in a vacuum for those 4 years. 25m a year is what we have him signed for overall.

Yep. This is really not a new contract IMO. It's an extension with more money added on, spread out over 6 years.

Whereas Russell is still averaging 33m$ a year even with what was left on his previous deal.

If Dak signs for 32 million over 5 years of extension to match being under contract like Carson through 2024 and equal aav for the extension, Prescott will still average more than carson does when factoring in his final rookie year for 6 years, 162 (27m a year)

Correct. It's the difference between being a 1st round pick and a 4th round pick, in terms of Rookie Contract.

Unless something has changed, I think bonus money can only be spread over the first 5 years of the contract, then you have to convert the last two years in the deal to guaranteed in order to spread it more.

You know, I will be very glad when the new contract is signed and executed. Much like the endless threads on Dad's performance and where he ranks relative to his peer group,

Much like a good (is there such a thing?) political debate, I am not sure anyone's mind is ever changed by the endless Dak discussion.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy them as much as the next, I am just ready to move on.

I think the fact that there will be a new deal between the NFL and the Players will affect this as well. There could be an "uncapped" element at play here as well.
