In summary, OBJ gets $15 million with $18 million potential in a deal negotiated by Zeke Sandhu.

Beckham hasn't averaged more than 65 yards per game since 2018.

Cooks broke 1,000 yards in 2,020 and 2021, and we signed him for $12 million, even though he has a proven history of production in recent years, minus the injury.

While defending my reason for supporting the job the current Jones ownership is doing, I've said that I like what they're doing a lot because of what they have not done, such as signing OBJ in this case, when they could get Cooks for as much as $6 million less.

Our fans will say this is cheap. I call it being prudent.

The Jones ownership may well have made the correct decision, but it's not a sure thing. I wanted Cooks more than any WR on the free agent market (including Beckham) so I was very pleased with the signing. But Beckham if he can return to form is a step above Cooks. It's a gamble by the Ravens which could lead to the SB or will be go down as an expensive mistake. Sometimes you have to take those gambles.

I prefer the Cooks deal than Beckham.
Letting Lamb grow without Cooper & now having Cooks as the clear WR2 should make for a better duo overall, even though Cooper is probably better than Cooks. Cooks’ skillset is a nice fit as a high end WR2, which is what this team needed.

The media begrudgingly gave the Cowboys credit for the Cooks trade. I am stunned that media seems to think the Ravens should have overpaid for OBJ. Two ACLs in two years……..

Jones front office is 1.8x more intelligent in decisions than the garden variety critic around here.

Still doesn't fix cultural issues where Jerry undermines accountability. Still doesn't fix never-ending-below-average-head-coach selections. Still doesn't address Goodell's trained zebras running as trained.

Prudent is fair. Its also the only option short of piecing together an actual big trade, and it comes on the heals of the botched Amari Cooper severance, Its not like Jamar Chase was out there this offseason. Cooks is the best WR we could have got without giving up anything. The smarter play was what the Bears did prying DJ Moore away from Carolina in a big trade, but Jerry and Stephen don't have the gumption to wheel and deal. They are basically returning last years failed playoff team, sprinkling in a few aging veterans, and calling it improvement. I guess we will see but they sure as heck haven't earned the benefit of the doubt.

This will be another comparison that goes on all season long. As well, comments made about the QB's getting the ball to them. For and against both WR's as well as QB's.
Probably and mostly agenda driven excuses involved.

I'll be honest, I'm not crazy about the Jones approach, as I see it as amateurish most of the time. But the positive side of their super conservative approach is that they don't do too many dumb moves anymore. And no, the Zeke contract wasn't a dumb move, and I've mentioned why on multiple occasions.

we got the better deal and the better odds of having the more productive player for most of the season. Cooks IMHO was the better choice of the 2. add in the mini circus and media attention mostly unwanted that OBJ brings and its clear we got the better player.
