Apples to oranges, but I see a lot of Marc Colombo.

Former first rounder, often injured and flaked out.

Perfect chance to resurrect his career with the best offensive line in football.

Good pickup.

Nice analogy. Merry Xmas (late) Coop....best of luck to you. (this is also a preemptive move because they know that leary is all but gone next year. Slide Collins into his role and Cooper becomes the swing Guard.

Totally disagree.

God love this fan base. They STILL want to prioritize cornerbacks over the offensive line. It's a sickness.

lol...I'm with you RS. Teams are built and maintained from the inside out. NOT the other way around. I hope the front office can finally see that.

Mickey Before and after...

Before the signing - If this guy is so good why is he available?

After the signing - You have to understand that this is a great signing.

he started injured. And went to a blocking scheme that wasnt a fit for him. He'll be in a zone blocking scheme in Dallas. Thats what he does best.
Do you know anything about his character/mentality? The fact that the Cardinals gave up on him so quickly makes me wonder about this.

What's with all the Looney hate I'm reading today? He's a solid backup. I'd certainly trust him more than a Cardinals, Patriots and Browns reject.

I don't know enough about him to hate him. Those are the only reasons I can think of why they would bring in a backup interior OL on the roster just for the playoffs.

I can certainly see that. I just think that he will get the big money this year. Money too big for the Cowboys to match.

Most likely. I see him receiving a Parnell-like benefit from being a part of this line, receiving more money than he probably typically would if he played on a poor line.

Bruce Arians is crazy?

More concerning is why the Pats gave up.

Why does Leary have to leave? Why does everybody just accept that? He's a pro bowl caliber starter in his 20's. Why are we letting this guy just walk? I don't understand it.

I think the issue is what the Cowboys have planned for Leary. If he's the sixth lineman with Collins starting at left guard and Free at right tackle, then it's not feasible to pay him the starting money that he'll want. It's possible that Dallas views him that way.

I think it's a mistake, though. I would say he's earned the starting left guard spot this year and pay him to man it. Collins would then be my odd man out if he cannot beat out Free at right tackle.

Totally disagree.

The reality is that we've got to have corners and we still have work to do on the defensive line. Leary is seen as a luxury if Collins is expected to take back his starting spot. If that's the case, then it's prioritizing starters over backups.

this is the NFL not MLB or NBA where teams are willing to rent a player going into FA. I am sure Dallas was asking for a lot but no team was going to trade a 2nd or 3rd for a guy that could walk. in the NFL most players want to hit FA

If a team had made a serious offer for Leary, it could have been allowed to try to negotiate a deal before trading for him. Nobody wanted Leary for what Dallas believed his value to be. Turns out the Cowboys were right about his value, which only helps Leary's stock heading into free agency.

Overlooked aspect of this and it may be pure genius on their part. We all expect Leary to leave and get good money meaning Dallas would be in line for a nice comp pick. However, if they have to sign a FA guard to replace Leary, then that comp pick could be negated or reduced. Signing Cooper now and not having to sign a OG in the offseason ensures they will get full value for the loss of Leary in the comp pick equation. Then there is the obvious added veteran depth for the playoffs. If he is better than the OG just called up and viewed as OL depth next year, it's a win-win to sign him now.

Standard roster churn. Coaches asked themselves if this guy had more upside than Seymour - who's the lowest rated OL on the roster. Answer obviously was 'yes'.

On Leary - I think we should franchise him. Team needs a year to figure out if Collins replaces Leary or Free.

Everyone thinks it because that would be the logical choice. Collins has more range to be a tackle than Martin.

I think he actually could be a better tackle than guard. He doesn't lack strength, but his movement skills are the best part of his game.
