Looks like the DiNucci experiment might be over. Honestly, I thought DiNucci was better than Grier - I'd have kept Rush as backup and DiNucci as 3rd string.

Rush should not be anywhere near this team. I keep Grier and let Rush walk. I wouldnt even have him on practice squad. No one will sign him so if they happen to need him they can just bring him back

Obviously one will have to come off the practice squad so the team will have a game day backup.

Or could the team be considering bringing in an outsider ... ?

I'm still so naive and not up to the new Practice Squad rules, ..we can now pull players back and forth

..from practice squad to game day active list ..without cutting any 53 roster player ?

If we can do this, ..then why even have a game day active list ? Just have all 53 roster spots active...

I'm not gonna hate on Cooper Rush...,

it's just that it makes sense to try to allevate and upgrade your critical backup QB situation than just staying with the same same ole, below average physical limitations
that present more limitations to our offense. He tries to play within his means and limit and bus drive to best of his abilities.

But what about always the exploring the possibilities of wanting more, wanting better for your offense ?

Really dude. Name me 5 NFL teams with starting level backup QB's ready to operate the team? Most teams that lose their franchise QB for several games
head to the cellar.

Eagles
49ers
Titans
Steelers
Browns
Bills
Colts
Jets
Giants
Chargers
Saints

They will move one to the roster before we play so Ben may not be gone yet
I don’t think there is much fear of another team stealing him away

49ers for sure. Then, Giants, Bills, Dolphins, Saints, and then depending on your feelings on them Ravens, Steelers, and Eagles.

I would consider adding the Ravens to that list. Considering it is the local team I get all their games so I got to watch their backup play and he looked pretty good considering it was a team with the entire roster on IR. Though being a clone of your starter probably also helps.

They trust Rush to run this offense for 2-3 games if needed. Yes, Grier had more arm talent and physical capability, but they just don't trust him. Risk/reward.

My guess is if Dak got hurt for >2-3 games, it wouldn't take long for Grier to come in over rush. But for just 1-2 - Rush all the way. I can understand.

Absolute garbage. These guys ceilings are the floor

What QBs that are available are better? Any QB that doesn’t have a team right now is pretty much garbage.

So it'll be interesting what the short term plan is. They can essentially carry Rush and Grier on the practice squad and cover 4 regular season games with call ups. I presume one will eventually be signed, but they can protect them and then figure it out for week 5.

Bringing in an outsider who hasn't practiced with the team and doesn't know the offense? Not likely, unless a starter gets cut.

My money is on Rush being the game day back up, because experience, for better or worse.
That's fair. An outsider couldn't be ready by the first game. I didn't really expect that, just tossed it out for a wrinkle. It's definitely most likely that Rush will be put on the roster

Roster size is still limited. I think part of what is happening is that the guys they are going to put on IR have to first be on the roster, then when put on IR that will open room for someone from the practice squad to be put on the active roster.

Eagles (Minshew)
Commanders (Howell)
Giants (Taylor)
Saints (Dalton)
Dolphins (Teddy)
49ers (Jimmy G)

… I can keep going

The problem isn’t bringing them back. It’s that they show limited to zero upside. At least if you’re going to lose games, do it with a guy like A Chris Streverler or an Easton Stick who shows potential. That’s my issue.

Considering what Dalton did here and Howell is a third round rookie, I don’t know about this list…

That still leaves 21 of 32 teams in the toilet if their starter goes down. And I'm questioning the Colts and Chargers here since their dropoff from Matt Ryan and Justin Herbert would be massive. And the Giants might actually be in better shape minus Daniel Jones.
