Cooper's game winning grab may have solved the red zone problems

I have long maintained that a big part of the reason the Cowboys have struggled in the red zone since Moore took over is that they lack a true throw it up guy at receiver. The way Cooper elevated and went up to take that ball away from the DB could change my thinking on that. Dude got waaaaay up over that DB and frankly sort of effortlessly plucked it out of the air. That was positively Dez-like. If we can count on him to do that with any regularity we should become an 80% TD in the red zone team.

I kinda hoped Schultz would become that jump ball specialist in the red zone but not sure he has that leap.

It's one of the few areas we could do with improving on offence - like you say Dez skillset on that part of the field needed!

Even with Dez that play requires the perfect pass, the perfect jump timing, the receiver's hands missing the ball and the defender's hands in the air, catching the ball while jumping above a player while also giving the defender a chance to swat the ball out after the catch is made.

It looks great when it works, but that is not really a "sure thing" fix but rather one more play option to call. That said, it is a great first down play call because it has a low turnover risk and late in the game it stops the clock on an incompletion.

My personal preference though for a red zone pass play is the start-stop-go route in the corner where the receiver starts to run to the corner, then stops and partially turns back and as the defender bites, he turns forward again and runs to the corner with the defender likely having to turn and chase. That is also a low risk turnover play and stops the clock on an incompletion which can be helpful late in a game.

Come on Ronnie. Good pass, great catch, but he barely left the ground by normal NFL 'go up and get it' standards.

We scored, but do NOT need more "throw it up" plays.....lowest % play in all of football at ANY level.....Stoopid that teams continue to use it. Every time its run and fails, I visibly lose control....can you tell how much I hate this play??? Ok....whew....I'm fine now.

The throw was perfect....either our guy gets it or no one does.

Going up and getting that ball coupled with the elite footwork by Cooper....thing of pure beauty.

Same guy who was fixing his hammy with a tennis ball not so long beforehand.

The guts on this guy make me not recognize the guy who wasn't in the game with the season on the line in 2019 and didn't seem to care. Any question Garrett and staff had lost that team by then?

I was so happy to hear when the Cowboys signed UDFA rookie TJ Vasher this past offseason. Too bad he's still been recovering from a meniscus tear he suffered last year while playing for Texas Tech.

This kid can get up there with the best.

Hope he gets well and makes the team next year.

I don't think that dB gave alot of effort. If he gets matched up on a beast db....he might have a tougher time with it. Which simply leaves one of our other guys open.

Not sure what you mean by "throw it up" plays. Those guys were joking in the huddle who gets the td. That was planned....signed sealed and delivered.
