I don't know the story, but unless the cop was there on official business (or buying weed), he has no need to be at the coffee shop. Just being there for the intimidation factor (yes cops use intimidation EVERYDAY, even in everyday traffic stops) is completely unneccessary.

Maybe he was hungry?

There are definitely a lot of severely damaged people who become cops.

Look at this imbecile

The lesson from this clip is--even when you're in the right--don't mouth off to a police officer, and don't resist arrest.

Some pencil-necked loser who's the flip-side of the kind who have become cops to compensate for something? Proves my earlier point: there are ***** in all walks of life, some just think if they focus on a specific group or demographic they'll have it under control.

There are good and bad in all walks of life. Some of the finest people I know are police officers. And I know some that I wouldn't trust with a water gun. I laugh at some of these comments that assume too much about a situation the poster knows nothing about.

Of course not. You might end up getting awarded $50,000 from the city like the poor girl did.

When you are clearly CAUGHT, yes, your advice holds. But she wasn't. She was doing nothing criminal, she was right...she knew it and her manager knew it. She offered to be searched right there. That cop had no right to confront her and arrest her whatsoever. Violation of rights. (Why do you think she was awarded $50,000?)

Cops with uniformitis who think they are above everyone else make me sick. I've ran in to some of these jerks before. Unreal.

He gets cleared and she got $50,000.

Only in America. Where no one's held accountable.

Coffee shop manager boots cop out of store in Portland, OR. Why? Because the manager said that he and his customers do not feel safe with him around in uniform.:lmao:

Now, I love the natural beauty of Oregon and hope to retire there someday. But, there are just some real nutjobs out there.

I'm guessing that there might be some illegal activity (;) ;) selling weed) going on at this establishment.

Was anybody else surprised by the emotional angle of the piece?

The officer and the woman seemed to emphasize how being asked to leave was emotionally hurtful to the officer.

The "we shouldn't be emotionally insensitive to officers because they have gentle human feelings too" thing ... well, it struck me as unusual.

And it sounded like the officer was trying to cast himself as Rosa Parks.

Very strange.

It's a hard job and there a a lot of good ones, but there are also a lot who get a thrill out of pushing people around and being arrogant.

Gee, I must be really lucky-- I'm pushing 58 years old, and never have had a problem with "arrogant cops"...

It's my theory that the folks who are always going on about "arrogant cops" have in their past pissed off some cops by having a crappy attitude when dealing with the law...

IOW, I'm suggesting you get back what you put out, when it comes to cops...

**** the police

You know the first role of the police was to discipline slaves and keep tabs on them? They weren't police as we know them today or police at all (the people policed themselves, used the courts, and of course there were sheriffs to carry out court orders). These patrolmen were enforcing slave codes, and it worked well enough that they decided to use it for other laws as well. Thus, our modern police force is borne out of slavery. Yay slaves.

Interesting. I wonder the origins proclaiming this bit of history. Of course you knew somebody would inquire as to such, right?

I've met my share of arrogant cops. And I've never had a problem with them. Anybody who puts their life on the line, daily, for me and mine deserves respect, and they get some leeway to be arrogant or pushy if they think they need to in order to do their job. In my book, if you resent cops, there's probably a good reason for it that has more to do with you than it does with them.

That said, this guy was clearly wrong, and he clearly overreacted by pepper-spraying the girl. Clearly. But he did think she committed a crime, and he was trying to do his job. Who knows why he was so sure he gave her a $20, because it'd be crazy to shortchange a cop when all they have to do is balance your drawer, but this kid was very disrespectful, and he did warn her, and she did resist arrest.
