Corner position can be productive, but still has health concerns!

We have heard good things in camp regarding our top 3 corners in Bland, Durant and Revel. They all are battling it out and holding up against elite competition thus far. We have also heard positive reports about Carson, but that is nothing new this time of the year, he has to produce when the games matter.

Injury concerns remain:

-Bland told reporters this week that his foot feels good but is still dealing with soreness.
-Revel and even Butler are returning from acl tears
-Moore our talented rookie is known to be injury prone and is already missing valuable practice time.

Now Parker's scheme runs more 3 safety formations, which will allow them to be less reliant on the corner depth if injury does occur.

We know what we are going to get with Bland and Durant if healthy, but the biggest unknown is Revel. He is starting to figure it out and has all the physical traits to become a high-end starter. If he develops faster then expected, this group's potential could become very good. We also may find out that we have a bunch of #2 and #3 corners where they need that true #1 next offseason. Time will tell, but health must be good to find out!

The Cowboys have his college tape and get to see him every single day in camp, so they already have a pretty good idea of what they’re going to get from him even though he played hurt last year. They’ve seen his strengths, his weaknesses, how he responds to coaching, and how he performs against NFL competition. At this point, they’re probably a lot more informed about his potential than any of us watching from the outside.

And let’s not forget the “CB whisperer” is a pretty smart guy, too. If the Cowboys believe he can develop this player and get the most out of his talent, I’m willing to give that evaluation some serious weight.

Yeah the potential ceiling for this group is very high for the top 3 guys. I don’t love the bottom of the CB depth chart as much as others though.

I think bland is going to be key. If that foot isn’t 100% we’re potentially in trouble. I really like the Durant pickup this offseason, but he’s a cb2/cb3 type. Revel looks to be taking a step forward in development but it’s also basically his rookie season. I’d expect some ups and downs from him.

With a pass rush that expects to be more middle of the pack I think we really need that stability at top of the depth chart in a fully functional Bland to keep some pressure off of Durant/Revel so those guys can be in roles giving them a better chance at success instead of constant tougher matchups.

I don't think we really know what Bland is when he's healthy. He hasn't been healthy since 2023 and even during that season he got exposed when asked to be more than a complimentary piece on the defense (Seattle, GB).

He's not a particularly reliable cover corner if he isn't generating turnovers, and he only has 2 INT in his last 25 games.

I think he's still probably a good player, but he's far from certain.

Revel showed in college pre-injury that he has the ability to be a very effective on an island boundary corner. Then his knee injury happened. His rehab and recovery of last year showed maybe a glimpse or flash of potential once his full health could return.
Now fast forward another year and it's simply a hoping game that he is completely healed and can stay healthy as he has consistently shown this offseason that his pre injury coverage skills have returned.

Bland is more the zone corner dependent on edge pressure(ie past Micah) in order to maximize his excellent talent of anticipating/jumping routes.

His last year's performance was not encouraging and now with the 2 consecutive foot injuries behind him with the full recovery from both continuing to be a concern, the hope is that he has finally returned to sustainable good health and can return to be the complimentary zone corner his ceiling always had him pegged as. If not, there is a possibility that Bland is another Diggs type scenario. Just without the character/attitude baggage.

Durant is an excellent backup with particularly noteworthy slot capabilities and is excellent fallback option in both cases if either were to go down.

Any and all the rest are coach em up types that hopefully wouldn't be counted on for too many games of starting. Spot action only.

Not only his health, but returning to that playmaker at the position.

I think Durant is better than a backup corner, he was a solid starter last season. More of a #2, but solid player.

They all are practicing and seem healthy. That is all that matters to me at this point.
Same for Overshown.
So I will tay away from the injury prone stuff and look forward to see what they can bring.

Not sure what is going on with Moore. But always thought he was player to get in some plays, but not a lot. Don't be surprised he will be inactive on game Fays for a while.

Don't forget they signed Kendrick. Gave Steward an tender offer as an ERFA, instead of letting him test FA.
They still like Carson and Butler. They may not be top players, but all can offer some in a rotation or even start a game if needed.

I think Durant is better than a backup corner, he was a solid starter last season. More of a #2, but solid player.

He really excelled in the very early part of his career with the Rams as an outstanding slot guy.
This is where I wanted him starting. To take over the Jordan Lewis role that was never replaced.

Unfortunately from all accounts is that Parkers scheme lends itself to Downs getting the majority of snaps in the slot which is unfortunate for Durant as I see Durant as just as good or better than Bland as a #2 cover corner as well.

I think he might be a system guy. Harris has been able to coach TO's out of guys and the combination if him in Quinn's scheme may have made him. He showed alot of weakness when he was isolated on athletic WR's. That Gus Bradley coverage scheme has kept alot of middling CB's from getting exposed like that
