Corners doing a lot more press coverage

This is SO good to hear. Being able to play press coverage is a luxery most teams don't have, & one we haven't had since the days of Smith, Brown, & Sanders.
I think, since Scandrick is the rawest of the new CBs, plus probably the fastest, he would seem the likely choice to replace Jones as the blitz corner.

Man, is this ever going to improve the pass rush

Haha I too remember these "cushions" Reeves would give. Pretty pathetic.

Wade has the D he needs to really show why we brought him and his defensive philosophy here so he better make the most of it. We're just as or even more talented than his San Diego unit now.

There were times on third down I knew we wouldn't get off the field. You could see the WR with no CB in sight.

We scored a bunch.

That helped our secondary a TON.

QFT Duey. I was SCREAMING for this last year and I guess the answer was we just didn't have the personnel: see Jacque Jones and TNew's injury.

you should still be terrified, very afraid!

Not with Campbell at QB. All we need to be affriad of is the dump off. :lmao2: :lmao:

OK...... so the secondary was so bad even Jason Campbell picked it apart.

Gotcha.

Good thing we got rid of Jacques Reeves and Nate Jones and upgraded their replacements....

For those of you who were whining and crying when we didn't draft Desean Jackson, Devon Thomas, Malcolm Kelly, etc, etc with your #28...

This ISN'T the first time Newman got some kind of injury. Remember last year when foot and knee injuries nagged him all year. Remember in '04 when he played like 60% on a bum knee.

Pt being that I question this guy's durability-so y'all should be VERY happy we drafted Mike Jenkins instead.

It wasn't that our CB was BAD, per se, but our nickel back(Jacques Reeves) just SUCKED WIND.

Yes-it was the entire state of our secondary that was our ultimate downfall last year(it was largely b/c of them that Eli and the Giants' O marched down the field in 47 seconds).

I'm happy Jerry and Wade addressed this in the offseason.

Dallas is practicing a lot more press coverage. On one play the offense lined up in a slot formation and Anthony Henry and Terence Newman both took a man, lining up just two to three yards off the ball. Newman told me he has asked DC Brian Stewart to let the defense play more press. “I know they want to zone blitz, that’s what [Stuart and Phillips] did in San Diego, but with the players we have here, I think you have to let them play to their abilities.” Based on this morning’s work, the defensive coaches may have paid attention.

wait, I thought zone coverage had little to do w/ the zone blitz :D

Not only can we press and run on third down, the best Best news ever is we can disquise what the coverage really is.

Show zone but jump to man or line up as man and roll into zone so no one is ever sure whats going to be there.

Now that combined with a great pass rush and a prolific offense is everything needed to win a ring - except getting grown men to want to focus on doing it.

It's all fine and dandy to try out some press coverage in training camp, but will the staff have the balls to make those calls in game situations, or do they revert to what's comfortable?

Wade Phillips is a man-coverage guy

most of the corners are too

I think it will stick

Jacques Reeves started most of last season, and Newman/Henry weren't 100% all year.

Pt being that Wade could only do with what cards were dealt to him.

Well, that's not correct.

Also, Wade isn't our defensive coordinator.

True-but would it make sense for Wade to hire a Cover 2 d-cord?
