Well this is something my mothers family didn't know, they came to the USA from Czechoslovakia around 1900. The entire family including my mom and all her brothers and sisters picked cotton just north of Waco for years, they also harvested cucumbers and just about any other thing to make a living. I just don't get trying to tie everything to racism, many people picked cotton especially during the depression.

Nothing wrong with cotton picking, IMO. Cotton picking Cooley is.
Cooley is sometimes used by some people to insult african-americans.
Cotton pickers and other low wage workers were called cooley.

Lets stop discussing this anymore

My mother and her family picked cotton as well. I really don't get how racism is involved with that saying.

what you ALL must remember is Bill Parcells told Chris Cooley before the draft that he would NEVER be a NFL TE.

Not exactly what he said even though he really isn't a TE, he's an H-Back or what Parcells calls the F-Back. Parcells actually wanted to draft him to play that role with Witten as the starting TE. Cooley was just too dumb to take it right.

lol? Are you mentally handicapped? Where do you get this crap from?

After a few searches, this is the closest thing I could find to 'cooley' being a racist term

Coolie - Chinese railroad workers in the 1800's wore triangle-shaped hats called "coolie hats". Might have originally been heard as "ku-li", a Chinese word meaning a menial worker.

Note that it's also spelled differently. In other words, you're just stirring the proverbial pot trying to invent racism where it doesn't exist.

So you are saying Cooley has an axe to grind with the Cowboys? Not sure what your point is why we need to remember what BP thought of Cooley.

Had Parcell's gotten a hold of him things might be different in that area.

Oh! Witten's blocking skills comes from parcells, too?

I saw some graph that showed 51% of CZ traffic was in the age between 13 and 17. I dont want kids growing up to be homophobic or racist.

Report 'Commanders' while you're at it, then.

'Cotton-picking' refers to something that's irritating and tedious. Not to something that's black. It may conjure images of race in your mind since there was a time when slaves picked the cotton, but the term isn't inherently racist, and the use in the thread title had nothing to do with race.

It's as big a danger to bury words and idioms out of fear or discomfort as it is to continue to use them despite the imagery the conjure.

He wasn't that good when he came in the league. You have a lot to learn if you don't think coaching plays a role in a guys development.

I guess i have a lot to learn then. Agreed. I just do not understand, why there are very few good pass catching and blocking tight ends. Is it scheme/coaching that K2, Cooley, etc are not good in blocking or that cant learn it.
