Could Aaron Glenn be a potential DC option?

Glenn is a former Dallas Cowboys player ( Bill Parcells). So yes, Jerry knows him very well.

Has Jerry ever met him? Formed a friendship? Does he even know who he is?
That’s what I thought. That would check the final, and most important, box. Jerry has a history with him. I’d take him. I like the idea of having former CB as a DC because we need better play out of our CBs. Al Harris brought the best out of Bland and Diggs. Maybe Glenn does the same? Hopefully. And like another poster said, hopefully Jerry doesn’t do on vacation while the good DCs are being hired and we settle for Eberflus’s cousin or son or something.

He sucks even worst than Eberwuss. Before football he was working in construction and coaching high school football.
But is he a puppet? Talent in coaching doesn’t matter as much as Jerry being able to put his hand up his back and move his mouth. That’s the main criteria for Jerry.

Whatever the dumbest choice is, that's what I expect Dallas.to do
Then I suppose you’re expecting them to not make any coaching changes at all.

And Vegas odds would probably be even money considering it’s Jerry and his personal relationship with Eberflus that has him here in the first place.

He checks all the boxes....

This could be a GOOD year for hiring a new DC........we may see lots of quality high-level coordinators available

I dont like this. He had quinnen williams change his stance this season and he was less effective. Once traded to dallas he switched back to his original stance and was much better.

He checks alot of boxes, but hard to imagine him getting fired already. If the Jets front office didn't know they were going to be as bad as they were, thats on them.

If he did get fired, he would be there with Flores at the top of my list

Here’s what will happen imo

Glenn : gets another year in ny
Flores : Vikings or somewhere else
Bowles : retires if not hc of tb

Dallas will bring back Eberflus. We are getting are hopes up. None of these guys are coming here.

Jerry has already said he wants continuity.

Eberflus will be back
Jerry says alot of things. Everything is pointing to Eberflus getting canned. If they had intentions of bringing him back, they wouldn't have moved him into the booth in season. . Moving him to the booth may have even been an unofficial firing considering they gave Whitecotten more say in the defense. Dude is a goner

Agreed.

I feel like once he got Williams and Wilson(lesser degree) the heat was turned on Matt to make the bleeding stop on defense.
It's still bleeding, bad

Don't see how Matt is still safe after showings like the Detroit game or making JJM look like a competent QB.

Agree....they weren't expecting a complete top 15 or 20 type turnaround but some signs heading in the right direction. But I said long before the trade that he had lost the locker room. Diggs speaking out and Schotty sitting in on his meeting did it for me.

Crazy thing is no team runs man more than zone. But some principals of zone can bleed into man-like match coverage. IIRC the Legion of Boom did a zone match scheme with their corners being able to press(and hold) effectively.
Quinn ran man ~34% of the time here, so Diggs still was technically playing more zone than man, but still thrived as a ballhawk under Quinn.
I've been too lazy-don't want to deep dive Matt's defense but considering how lost most of the secondary was in the first half, I have to wonder if it was a mix of rejection of his calls or just different zone responsibilities than what they had under Quinn and even Zimmer.

Funny part is I would rather have Zimm than Flus. Once Zimm changed midseason last year the D actually started to improve. Flus had a 3 week run that coincided with Schott helping him and Q Will coming on board….

Detroits defense was gashed when he was there, why does everyone think he is a good coordinator?

I hope not. He is a bad defensive coordinator. His defenses in Detroit ranked 31st, 28th, 23rd and 7th. Not even average but well below average. He had one good year and that’s it. On the Jets he inherited a top 5 unit from Saleh which is now ranked 30th. Even before the trades of his best players it was ranked 27th. It would be a bad hire.

They need to hire either a true top dog whose defenses every year are in the top ten, Jim Schwartz would be a great example if he does become available, or else take a risk on a rising star who is an assistant on one of the top defensive coordinators, Jim Leonhard for example. I’m sure there are many options in the second category who would be intriguing.

I would be against a hire like Glenn or Bowles who currently have bottom ranked defenses. This league changes fast, just look at Eberflus.

i'd be surprised if the jets fired glenn after only one season.
but it is the jets.
and that would be a jets thing to do.
if he gets fired...i'd love to see him here as the dc.
but i bet detroit would be the favorites.

All of these except flores will be under contract at the end of the league year.

Of them

Gannon - Sucks. His team gave up and there’s been a weird lack of accountability

Flores - beat to death in the Zone over the last few days

Bowles - not getting fired. Signed a three year extension in the offseason. Also, he sucks. He’s the Bucs DC and they are bottom ten in points and yards.

Schwartz - best DC in the league. The Browns won’t fire him and he has Myles Garrett and a top defense in the league. We’ve got Jerry and Eze.

Glenn - won’t get fired. Woody knows the QB situation was a disaster and their talent is awful. Glenn, still in his first year and loads of money is still considered important to their rebuild. Besides, a former DB who talks about turnovers as his hallmark, is coaching a team with zero interceptions.

I’m sadly coming to grips with these last two games being a tryout for Aaron Whitecotton on the sidelines and that Jerry is going to talk himself into promoting him.

A position coach, whose never developed or implemented a defense is going to be tasked with turning around the leagues worst defense, with some of the worst talent, and a HC with an offensive background.

It’s the kind of weak, comfort move that leaves Jerry feeling in control.
I think this is totally accurate.. sadly.
