Could be a big week

It's a shame we won't have more access to practices. I'm interested to see the progress of a few players.

It was reported last week that Anthony Spencer might don some pads. I would like to hear how he's moving in them.

Amobi Okoye is supposed to begin practicing with the team. I know we should expect little from him, but it's such a great story.

Terrell McClain should be coming back soon. I'd like to hear how he's doing.

Brandon Carr is returning this week. Morris Claiborne is coming back too. How will the defense look with our top three CBs playing together?

I am also curious to see if Minter will get any snaps with the second team.

Should be a fun week, but there will be no media access. Argh!

Bro...I loved your post. There are a lot of things to get excited about this year's team. It's going to be really fun when the starters play against the 49'ers.

But, some "realists" around here say the Cowboys are so in disarray that the team has no chance! lol

Maybe I misunderstood. I was mainly wanting to point out that this could be a pivotal week. Expectations are understandably low for the defense. But Spencer could add a much needed jolt. Reports said he was moving like he was before the injury. I really want to get more info. If he really has plans to play in the opener, then it's imperative that he start working in soon.

I'm not even sure what the term "realist" means, but I have a question for you. Do you think with the offense that appears to be really good, combined with a defense heavy draft and some money available for a couple key free agents, do you think we could be on the verge of becoming a very good team the next few years.

I do.

I do.

We have had the capacity to be a "very good" team several times over in the past decade.

But our own inability to critically judge and evaluate the talent each offseason tends to trip us up.

I don't expect Big Spence to be ready for Game 1, but it sure is nice to hear the things we are hearing instead of "setbacks" and "being cautious" and all those other buzzwords that never bode well for a player.

it's a big week but I would think that it'll be a couple of weeks before those players mentioned get up to speed.

Claiborne will be back for about three practices before injuring himself again. He's not much better than Matt Johnson at this point.

I think that even with the talent we have had that we should've had more success but the in game coaching has been some of the worst in football.

I will not dispute this on a broad level. We have had good enough talent to break through 8-8.

We have been blessed with a very good QB, which is a rarity it seems. There has been a smattering of other top shelf talent.

But ultimately the individual talents mean little when the concept of team building is not capable of being grasped by the real architect.

This is the week most likely where the game plan for the 49ers starts to get implemented a little bit, hence the locking out of the media outside of the warmup period.

That and it's time for them to actually practice now, and not worry about all the eyeballs.
