If he didn't have the fancy named break, they wouldn't be doing this. The MRI showed no structural damage, but since he's on the shelf anyway, they are doing an exploratory scope to be certain and guide the appropriate rehab.

That's how I read it. MRIs aren't foolproof, and he's got a problem that needs healing, so let's check it out completely.

agree. an mri really isnt great for knees except the obvious ligament tear

They're evaluating the cartilage, and will check out other structures while there.

He may have sustained a bit of meniscus damage, and they want to make sure that there's no sign of tibial osteochondritis.

The OP is jumping the gun on gloom & doom; if there is minor debridement needed, recovery from that is only 2-4 wks.

No reason at this time to change the 8 week estimate.

The ACL integrity wouldn't be under scrutiny, correct? The Lachman, Anterior Drawer test is relatively strong at ruling in an ACL tear.

My thinking was either medial meniscus/ MCL analysis, but I could be wrong. I like the osteochondritis hypothesis though.

Thanks Doc, I'm a linebacker at heart...you just put a new and important light upon the linebacker positional group. Thanks, Sir...

Standard procedure to take close up look while you are in there
