I know jerry jones is also thinking that with no CBA (collective bargaining agreement) to not hire a top head coach and have to pay him, till a CBA is signed. So, why waste the money. So, wait till after the year is over, and cloud of dust is settled, and then make a decision, kinda like jerry jones did, when he hired parcells at end of year.

I was wondering about something.

1st, could jerry jones be thinking that with wade still as head coach, and cowboys dont win, to get andrew luck as cowboys future franchise QB, like the Cowboys got Troy Aikman first overall in 89? Or possibly trade that top pick for extra picks, if cowboys do indeed get top ovreall pick.

2nd, if is a losing year, this would put no pressure on jason garrett as interim coach if season does snowball. This way, most of finger pointing and blame will go towards wade and his soft camps and approaches.

There are coming out some reports now of jason garrett not liking the way schedule is set up, practices approach etc... the way wade has things set up.

Because this just occured to me, we all know how jerry jones is having lots of stuff at cowboys stadium besides cowboys games. So, he is making lots of money that way. Then, you add in after the superbowl in cowboys stadium, jerry jones will make a ton of money that way too. So, heading into 2011 season, (possibly making some big time cuts of players like Barber, Davis, Brooking, possibly Kitna, etc.., that Jerry Jones will have money then, to spend on players, regroup with a top head coach, that is a disciplinarian, to get cowboys back to promised land. I think now jerry sees that he cant have the culture that he has allowed with a soft head coach. The players have to fear the head coach, knowing he is in charge, and stop some of the big hoppla media type circus next year after jerry makes his big time money off of the superbowl this year.

So, what do you zoners think?

I saw a video of the 95 americas team, and it explains everything in detail. Hopefully DC or theebs or someone can put that up again, where jerry talks about meddling, motivating jerry, the circus atmosphere cowboys had even in 95. and this video is played over and over and over again in jerry jones face, because after 95 with basically jerry running things his way, till parcells got here, the cowboys have gone down hill since.

So, please DC or theebs put up that broadcast, to be played over and over again. Hammer it home in jerry jones face.

With the jerry jones spin!

You're talking about a guy who fired a back to back superbowl winning coach. A guy who hired Dave Campo as a head coach. A guy who replaced Parcells with Wade Phillips. Who knows what he's thinking.

Except for one thing... (see sig)

See, Jason would have practically nothing to worry about.

Any links to these reports?

If Jerry has to worry about Garrett having to much pressure than Garrett does not deserve the HC job. This is the NFL and there is pressure all year round. Even in the offseason.

You're not a HC in this league who's going to succeed if you can't handle pressure.

That would be like a dream. Tony is a good QB, but he's not a championship caliber QB, I'd love to test our 'Luck' with someone else.

No coach would come into this situation.

People keep saying the CBA is preventing Jerry from hiring another coach right now and it's foolish.

Even if the CBA was signed Jerry wouldn't hire a new coach because he couldn't find anyone willing to take on a situation like this.

Neither was Peyton Manning until he won a Championship. If anyone thinks drafting a rookie QB in the first round is going to make us a winner than they are delirious.... The only thing that needs addressed is the o-line, Safeties, LB. What happens if Luck doesn't pan out? Than we are stuck looking for a qb for the next 6 years like last time. What if he does pan out.... Then he is as good as Sam Bradford this year, which is not good enough to win a superbowl

Yeah, Romo's not a proven championship winner like .......the guy who can't even win a conference championship in college.

Can we create a new forum room for all the upcoming "Draft Luck" threads? Call it the The Padded Room or something?

Funny how Aikman was a loser until a guy named Emmitt Smith showed up.

It's amazing what Romo has done without a good consistent running game to help him out. Go back and look up any "Championship caliber" QB not named Tom Brady. They all had a very good running game and/or defense to help them win.

Time will tell this tale Joe.

Personally, I would like to see Wade canned and an interim named, even though it wouldn't change anything other than how I feel about the club at the present time. Call me selfish, I care not.

I think they have to evaluate the QB situation, it's the most important position in football. You have to put a grade on the current stable of QB's on the roster, as well as any QB's that are entering the draft in addition to any free agent QB's that may become available. The question is, where do your guys rank as compared to any potential draft picks or free agents? If you have a high enough grade on Luck, I think you have to pull the trigger. Now, if Luck doesn't grade out that high as compared to Romo you go in another direction. You can either stand pat and take a player that you have rated as good value for the slot or take offers from other teams that want to move up. There are alot of variables that are going to come into play between now and April, get ready for an interesting ride Joe.

I think that would depend on how things went, not necessarily wins and losses, but coach/player interaction, team attitude, discipline, etc.. I would make the move, but I think there may be things going on behind the scenes that we as fans don't see that prevent this.

There are coming out some reports now of jason garrett not liking the way schedule is set up, practices approach etc... the way wade has things set up.

I would like to hear more about this from multiple sources. I think that there is some friction, but I really have no idea as to how much is there. I think this falls into the "believe half of what you see and none of what you hear" category at this time.

I think that the stadium is a cash cow at the moment and will be for awhile. I also think that you need to pick the best man for the job, he doesn't need to be a fire breather but he shouldn't be a pushover either. You need a man that is well rounded(mentally) and knows when to pick his spots and what buttons to push. In my opinion, picking a head coach just because he full of piss and vinegar is no different than Wade. It's just the opposite side of the same coin, find a happy medium and let him do the job as he sees fit.

So, what do you zoners think?

I think there will be alot of interesting discussions over these issues in the coming months and some of those discussions will be heated.

In one word Joe, "History". See Darren Woodson and his parting comments he wrote in the locker room. You can take lessons from the past, but you also have to look ahead for nothing is static in the NFL.

Luck would be horrible in Jason Garrett's offense.

Here's every throw he made against USC last year, about as close as you can come to a really good defense in the Pac 10. As you can see it's mostly all of his success behind center, hitting dink and dunk short passes off the playaction fake and bootlegs/roll outs. He wasn't very good at all in the shotgun trying to hit WRs downfield. Jason Garrett runs shot gun as his base defense, hardly ever runs play action and almost never motions the QB.

...as I keep saying, he's the dumbest billionaire ever: at least when it comes to football. He just can't and won't hire a football man or two. He could still have a blast being around the guys, but he's a narcissistic egomaniac who won't give up power until he dies. Sad but true.

What? Brady never won a championship without at least a Top 6 defense.

Great another thread with this goofy suggestion on drafting a QB if we get the top pick in the draft.

We have a top 5 QB in his prime who has a 60 million dollar contract.
We are not trading him. Zero Chance. We would be foolish to pay a backup rookie gamble 70 million dollars to sit the bench. He wouldnt even sniff the field until his rookie contract is up and he is a free agent.

Does anyone really think jerry will think the team that is widely considered to be the most talented in the league to be in a rebuilding phase. Getting rid of Romo and going with a gamble rookie in a position with a high bust rate would be us rebuilding. If Jerry were to get rid of Romo and do this he might as well trade all the talent away and start over.... The reality is with signing bonuses he has given out he couldnt do this anyway. He is financially committed to most of these players.

Jerry remembers what it was like trying to replace Aikman before. No way does he trade away our QB who is actually as good as Aikman was just because some people think the "flavor of the year" qb is coming out of college. Every year there is a "Luck". Every year their will be a "luck".

Has Jerry ever said anything at all that someone could misinterpret as him being less than 100% pleased with Romo?

My initial response is:

Jerry Jones is thinking two things: (1) raise the price of concessions to offset decreasing ticket sales and (2) what excuse he uses next when the Cowboys lose again.

My real answer is:

We don't need a new QB. Our biggest need is at offensive line. Then we need some help at safety.

As to this year Jerry is probably thinking (1) please get a win or two soon so the fans are off my back and (2) I need to hold onto Wade till the CBA is done.

Pulease. Aikman wasn't considered a loser until Emmitt showed up. Aikman was a part of a 1-15 team, and most understood that as a rookie, he wasn't going to accomplish much, especially given the lack of talent surrounding him. And Aikman was injured in his first year. If anything, Aikman was considered courageous for enduring the beating he took. (Remember the 27-0 shutout at the hands of the Eagles on Thanksgiving Day in 1989?)

Emmitt was draft the year after Aikman, and Aikman was out much of that year too.

Your statement is a stretch of major proportions.
