Yes, the word from the local reporters that were at OTAs is that they came away with the impression that Dunbar is a near lock to be on the roster; whereas, before the OTAs they thought he was the odd man out.

Garrett raved about him in press conference. There were very positive quotes by the RB coach and by Witten about Dunbar. Garrett made comments that Dunbar could be a full time WR if they needed him there.

Before the 2014 season, Forsett was cast as a change-of-pace running back who never exceeded 650 yards in any season and bounced around the league. After Ray Rice was suspended for the year, Forsett stepped in and rushed for 1,266 yards.

A couple of years ago, I thought he might could be our Brian Westbrook. Now, I don't see anything but a specialty role at best for him because I don't think Garrett considers him more than that.

My guess is that Dunbar does not suddenly become our 'anything' and continues to be a nifty back who can be effective in space in limited situations. The good news will be that it's going to turn out that we're still a relatively effective rushing team because of our above average run blocking, and we'll continue to have one of the more effective passing attacks in the NFC, too. The better news will be that we're also improved on defense, which will put us in better situations across the board and give us a bit more margin for error in close games than we've had in recent seasons.

Neon, thanks for shaking the trees a bit...a set of good thoughts. We aren't in a filming of naked and afraid, so I like what shape Dunbar is in now. He is in great shape.

Unless Dunbar can bring something to the return game he should be on the bubble. The comparisons to Sproles kill me.

From the department of redundancy department.

well come on, how much do we have to go on with Dunbar? I mean we know hes not that good, the coaches play their best guy. Maybe he needed time, ok, i can see that. Maybe hes better than i know, i can wait and see. But until Dunbar has even shown us he can be anything, lets see what he produces. Its a gamble right now but thats what its all about anytime a player can lose it mentally, or might shock the world.

I don't think the issue is that Dunbar is not that good. The bigger problem is that he's not all that useful. He's a very specialized player because he gives you only return options (where he's nto our best returner) on STs, and he's a bit of a liability in pass protection. So unless you want to sub him aggressively and force him the ball in space on first and second down, there's not a lot of places to use him. When he gets the ball in space, though, he's effective.

this is true, just way more elegant than i could have done. The big issue is, you play your best guy, So in truth hes not the best guy for what he does. If he was good and specialized, than hes our number 2. Ok its not ideal what you want out of the number 2, but lets face it, if hes still good at soemthing hes good enough to feed the ball.

And as you are STILl correct, why hold on to him? hes not going to get any more versatile at this stage.

I see that dirty yards is the new buzz word on the Zone this week.

But will it take the lead over "quick twitch"? Even more, can it break the record that "bus driver" holds?

I've always thought that Dunbar could be special in the right role, but at this point we're going to have to see it and see it consistently. I do think this is the year he has to show it though.

He looks like a good player to me but you can't do jack squat without opportunity.

Will Garrett figure out a way to get him more opportunities? Highly doubt it.

I still stick to Dunbar is the odd man out. And if I'm wrong, I am wrong. The 3 best RB's will still be productive in their opportunities.
