Could McCarthy and Quinn co-exist together indefinitely?

Not saying that McCarthy has completely earned a contract extension yet or anything like that, but suppose the Cowboys did win a Super Bowl this season. If you were Dan Quinn, why would you want to leave? He gets paid like a head coach and he is one of the best at what he does. McCarthy is perfectly happy calling plays and basically being an OC. If both coaches work well together and like things the way they are, why change it? is it about legacy and a stupid job title? If I were Quinn, I would stay!
I think I wanna see McCarthy call plays for more than the first week. They had all TC to prep for the giants.

Depends on what you want. Most of these guys got where they were by being really ambitious. I obviously have no idea what Quinn is thinking, but I could imagine him thinking, “I’ve done everything I can do here, it’s time to move on to a different or bigger challenge.” I could also imagine him thinking, “I love it here, love my guys, I don’t feel the urge to move on at the moment,” which seems to be how he felt last offseason. But that probably won’t last forever. When you get tons of offers thrown your way, one will eventually excite you enough to go for it.

He likes being a DC and loves coaching Parsons. He’s had multiple chances to leave and didn’t. He’s stated before how much he loves his job now and how difficult things became for him his last few years as HC.

We’re looking at a McCarthy/Dom Capers situation if we keep winning.

I just want to give both those guys their props.

Coach Mac has been treated wrong by both the national media and our fans. Sean Payton is the darling with no one ever giving McCarthy credit for the same track record. (And don't get me wrong, loves me some Payton too, great OC here)

I said it from day one, the Cowboys need a level head working man's Coach like McCarthy to counter-balance the Jerry Hollywood Show we've been dealing with since the 90's.

And Coach Q who gets his props.... Much respect to him for not turning this into a Wade/Garrett fiasco, because we are always open to the undermine factor with our unique Owner/GM structure. Players love him, and he still is loyal to Coach Mac and doesn't cause drama. I know that if today McCarthy god forbid had some medical issue and had to go out, we wouldn't lose a beat with Coach Q taking over.

Moore is gone, he was the hand-picked Jerry guy. This is Coach Mac and Q's Team. And I feel damn good about the season's potential. Players confident as they should be, but not a supportless talk factory like it was in the Hot Boyz era.

Both these guys should be in running for COTY and Asst COTY.
Nope
If we win a SB, Quinn is gone
If we dont win one in 2 years hes gone
Plain and simple- No. One of the truths about all team sports: Team Success makes all coaches highly sought after. And this is just game one. There are no patterns to the season yet. We don’t know how this all plays out.

But if we have a great season, I doubt Quinn stays.
There is another scenario that could take place.
Dallas wins the NFL Title 5 months to the day -February 11, 2024.

McCarthy would become the first head coach to win a Super Bowl with two different teams - and with two of the most iconic franchises in league history.

What better way to complete an NFL coaching career that began three decades ago (1993).

And Quinn succeeds him to become the 10th Dallas Cowboys Head Coach.

Some people like being the second dog rather than the leader…..that applies to all professions. There is less stress and accountability yet still have much authority. We don’t know what’s in DQ’s head, he might be happy and comfortable right where he is.

No. Like all things NFL the competitive balance will put opportunities in front of Quinn. He is not ineffective like Marinelli was. The pull to the top job is going to get stronger and stronger if the defence performs the way it did yesterday.

Can this board get through one week after a great win and not have threads started like this?

This is game two week, not the off season after a great year and Quinn is thinking of leaving.

Why is it people can't focus on what is, and not what MAYBE will happen in six or seven months?
No offense to the OP, but we as fans cannot seem enjoy the success from last night for 24 hours before the hand wringing starts.

And the funny thing is, if Dallas looks like the Giants at any point in the next half a season, even for one game, these posts will turn into, "Can Quinn be fired and get someone else. He stinks."

Take a deep breath. Rewatch the highlights on YouTube. Enjoy the season. Let tomorrow handle itself when that time comes.

40-0 against the Giants. What a great Monday!

I’ve thought this for some time….

Quinn knows what he can do here building around Micah. His name will stay in the mix each offseason for the next several years…

He knows better than to take just any job because you don’t generally get a third shot.

I think he is waiting for Pete Carroll to retire and take over as HC in Seattle.

If I'm DQ I would consider a head coaching position, but I see zero need to go to a dumpster fire of a situation. He probably has 1 or 2 spots targeted every offseason and if those open up he would seriously consider them and if not you go back to Dallas and be DC.

He's going to get paid well in Dallas and he has a ton of talent in-house right now. Why not be loved in a city where you don't have to deal with the media fallout after every loss instead of going to a rebuilding team where you're most likely going to have to sit through 1 or 2 down years as they rebuild and by year three it's make or break for you. Being a HC in the NFL is a tough gig, and so often it comes down to do you have a GM who can put you in a position to get a QB and do you have the staff to develop/incorporate said QB. I think this is a big part as to why owners/gms tend to prefer offensive minded head coaches. You get a defensive HC and even when you hit on the QB/OC combo you will typically lose the OC after a year or two.

Quinn would be stupid to leave unless he's making a ton more money as an HC.

He's not going to get a better environment.

DQ is a DC because he wants to right now. It's all about when DQ feels like being a HC. I believe it has to be the perfect storm for him and he's not looking for any project teams.

Can a CZ member post a thread without someone whining about a thread they don't like? No one forced you to open this thread.

If they couldn’t then Dan Quinn could’ve left by now.

Dan Quinn has had every opportunity to leave and he’s chosen to stay.

If Quinn just wanted to be a HC somewhere or didn't want to work for McCarthy he'd already be gone. He seems to love what he is doing and Jerry will pay him handsomely to stay. I suspect his departure isn't as written in stone as some think...

One good thing about MM is he gives his coordinators a lot of discretion, if anything maybe too much. Just look at the Moore situation. He apparently wasn't ecstatic with some things but still let Moore do his thing

I think Quinn is in no rush unless the ideal HC spot comes up.
IIRC there were rumors about Seattle when Carroll hangs them up.
Think it has to be either the right situation or just the perfect location he wants to live in/family wise.

But I doubt he's eager to take on a bad team, even with a high pick next year when it's a 2-3+ year rebuild-even if hitting on most of the picks.
This. He likes Dallas and is comfortable here. He won't leave for just any HC job. But for the right team and the right opportunity, he will definitely leave.

If a good team with good talent offers him an HC position he is gone in an instant. Just like anyone he has an ego and I am sure he wants to take another shot at the HC position.

I hope we can keep him at least one more year. Best DC we have had in a long time.

Sure. Don't fix it if it aint broke.
Not sure if Quinn wants another crack at HC, but only he knows.

Yes they could. Seems that Quinn learned that the grass isn't always greener when he was HC at Atlanta
...sure they went to the sb ..but they lost in the worst way possible.

It all fell on him. Not fun.

I also learned this in my professional life...chasing the money and titles got me in miserable situations. Now I am in a great place and happy and I tell headhunters they would have to triple my salary to get me to leave....
