Could McFadden fit in Cowboys cap future?

Say the Cowboys get the/a top pick in next year's draft, how about the cap consequences? Romo needs to be signed long term, say avg $10 mil/year cap hit. Newman nedds to be done soon (not this year but soon). Big money there. And Barber will need to get signed. Some serious coin there. Add in Crayton. Anyone else? Jamarcus Russel cost a whole lot. I think the Cowboys are about $10 mil under the cap this year and that money be used to help the situation. Are the cowboys in good cap shape next year and the following?

People really overestimate the cap hit of rookies. Sure, it's a lot compared to their NFL experience, but compared to the players with the largest cap hits in the league, they're relatively low.

The real question on these young guys that get the huge top 5 $ is will they produce? The Cowboys and just about every other team could afford DMac right now with all the new cash, but when you pay a RB the kind of green he's gonna get, he better put up some numbers. A guy like Bush is on pace for 500 rushing and 400 receiving and for what he's being paid that won't cut it.

I think most of us want McFadden but whose his backup going to be? MBIII will be a RFA after 07 season and we can afford keep him by simply tendering him a $1.7M contract; if another team wants him they'd have to give us their first round pick. After 08 season MBIII will be a FA and will want and get big bucks. As much as I love MBIII and would love to see us give him a real shot as our starting RB near the end of the season (otherwise JJ might pout), I just don't see how we cap wise can afford to keep MBIII, etc.

Whether he fits under the cap is a non-issue. The only issue is whether Jerry Jones can realistically draft him.

People, we will not have the #1 pick next year so let McFadden go.

But we have two picks that could be used to trade up to #1.

Never say never.

The team with the #1 pick may not be looking at RB either, or they may like Slaton better...

We won't need the #1 pick to get McFadden.

We are under the Cap by $12M, it goes up next year. We are allotted a Rookie salary cap pool, we can sign ANYBODY in next years draft cap wise.

If CLE can score points then we are going to need a ton more to get up to #1 or 2

I really dont see Clevland dropping 50 on anybody else. It was one of those fluke games, dont look for that again.:

As long as they're in the top 10, we could probably get up to #2 or #3.

If Andre Woodson and Brian Brohm keep playing like they're playing, there's a good chance (with Atlanta, KC, and the Dolphins vying for worst in the league) that two QBs will go first.

The salary cap is becoming a bit of a joke, it will keep expanding and will only haunt the most irresponsible of big spenders aka the Commanders or if the Federal Government acquires a team.

Yea the concern is goofy...rookies are cheaper than anybody else you're gonna get basically unless you're getting bums or guys like Tank Johnson.
