Could the 2010s be a decade without a dynasty?

Lately I've been pondering this: Could the 2010s be the first decade in a long time without an NFL dynasty?

1960s: Packers
1970s: Steelers
1980s: 49ers
1990s: Cowboys
2000s: Patriots
2010s: ?

Sure, the 49ers, Seahawks and some other teams look very much poised to contend for years to come, but I think it a bit doubtful that any one team will emerge as the dynasty team to beat this decade.

As for the Patriots, I think they will enter a decline relatively soon, and Brady has to retire at some point anyway.

niners hawks will be in cap hell in 1 or 2 more yrs, 80% of their roster is in rookie deals

And no, dynasties are done. Jerry s right, the nfl wants a .500 league. sells more money with more teams around .500 because u have final weekends of the season like u had this yr. was exciting.

I would think you'd have to add the Jints with their SB wins somewhere here to..

..as much as I hate to admit it..

..don't know where they fit..2000-2010 or 2011- 2020..

fuzzy math..

over to you.

They won't be if they continue to draft well and let some of those players walk in free agency.

The Patriots have been doing it for years and field a competitive team year after year.

The league wants to move away from dynasty teams because that is what is best for business. I agree about the Pats, I've thought for years when Brady retires they will decline quickly unless they can get lucky like the Colts did at QB.

Thats big FAs just that yr alone. Thats 3/4th of their starting secondary in 2014

And next yr they're only 3 mil under the cap. And this yr they have golden Tate and brandon browner wont be resigned.

you can have the drafts of the century the next two yrs and not draft well enough to replace what ur going to lose. Thats basically 85 of their starters becoming freeagents in the next 2 yrs

I have a feeling ryan mallet is going to take over and be successful being around those coaches and Brady.

It's all about parity now too bad our team will never contend. We're stuck in mediocre.

8-8 would mean their in parity with most of the league. Mediocre would be defined in what the Commanders and giants were this yr.

With the current NFL I think you have to change how you define the word dynasty. It may no longer be how many superbowls a single team wins in a decade. What a dynasty may be now is the team or teams who are regularly successful in the regular season and have consistent playoff appearances year over year. I mean, take out New Englands super bowls and you're still talking 7 or 8 consecutive playoff runs. Year over year playoff appearances may be the new dynasty.

Frankly I think it stinks. I truly believe genuine hate is good for sports and the sports fan (to certain point, like not stabbing people in the parking lot after games type point). A dynasty team helps to breed that hate. The year over year different winners in the bowl I think just waters down the product and our fan feelings.

The 49ers are well on their way, three NFC championship games in a row.
A great HC and a great QB is all you need to build a dinasty in today's NFL.

Gift and the curse of drafting TOO well. Now you gotta strike gold again and again. The salary cap era........

You have to remember the cap will continue to grow, the players are willing to restructure, the teams now have rookie salary caps, the teams can cut a player and spread the hit.

It is possible. Lack of cap money is not the issue.

It's lack of depth because of a cap.

Just a few thoughts.

I think about the decades dynasty thing once in a while.

It's funny how one more SB win in 70's gives us co-share of dynasty for that decade.

All this talk about Belichick being the last great coach. I think Jimmy Johnson was last great coach.

I don't see a dynasty for 2010 decade. Broncos had a shot if they had won last year.... The this year.
I could have seen Peyton reel off 3 straight...if all went right.

For one I'd like to have these tough decisions which means that these guys are on my team. The bolded are the people that will have priority the orange are guys that are on the bubble the others we'll see. No disrespect to Wilson but he's really just a game manager right now and shouldn't command a high salary. The unbolded are not a high priority imo, in 2016 Lynch won't be the Lynch that you see today so he won't be resigned.

Man don't know about that, he's about to set the all time record for coached playoff victories, displacing Landry, all the guy does is coach teams to the playoffs and random Super Bowl wins. I hate the SOB but he's inarguably a great coach.

Earl Thomas Richard Sherman James Carpenter Byron Maxwell are going to cost alot of money. Nobody on that team made more money then Maxwell this yr. He went from a JAG to probably a pro bowler in 2014 in half a yr that Browner was suspended
