Could the 2010s be a decade without a dynasty?

They won't be if they continue to draft well and let some of those players walk in free agency.

The Patriots have been doing it for years and field a competitive team year after year.

they drafted well because they had incredible picks because they had many losing seasons...they won't have luxury of high picks anymore.

I would think you'd have to add the Jints with their SB wins somewhere here to..

..as much as I hate to admit it..

..don't know where they fit..2000-2010 or 2011- 2020..

fuzzy math..

over to you.

The Pats are really strong lock for 2000-2010, imo. Hard to top 3 SB wins and 4 appearances..plus 8 divsion titles in a decade.

The Gnats split their titles 2007 and 2011, but they have hope for 2010s. Sur ehope not though...and very highly doubt it happens.

It's possible that every single Super Bowl from 2010 through 2019 will be won by a different team.

I think this is the year that the 4 top teams are left. The winner will hold the lead for team of the decade.

Lately I've been pondering this: Could the 2010s be the first decade in a long time without an NFL dynasty?

1960s: Packers
1970s: Steelers
1980s: 49ers
1990s: Cowboys
2000s: Patriots
2010s: ?

Sure, the 49ers, Seahawks and some other teams look very much poised to contend for years to come, but I think it a bit doubtful that any one team will emerge as the dynasty team to beat this decade.

As for the Patriots, I think they will enter a decline relatively soon, and Brady has to retire at some point anyway.

It's still too early

If you want to remain competitive in this modern era, you have to really focus on having a great GM and an HC since you can't just dump a ton of money into getting the best players anymore and win by outspending.

Well, since the turn of the decade, the winners have been Green Bay, NY, and Baltimore.

Only team I see possibly running the NFL for the next 4-5 years is Green Bay (out of those 3).

I was also thinking, who would be considered "second place" for the team of their respective decade?

I figured the 60's obviously belonged to the Packers...I'm too young to know who was competitive back then.
The 70's is the Steelers decade, second place considerations go to the Raiders, Dolphins and Cowboys
The 80's is the Niners all the way...only other team I can think of is maybe the Giants.
The 90's is the Cowboys followed by Denver, San Fran and Green Bay
the 2000's is the Patriots followed by Pittsburgh.

I dont think so, too much parity now.
It is a good thing, but also sucks that teams are punished for drafting well.

A dynasty to me is at some point, repeating as champs. Giants are not a dynasty. Ever. And really, their Super Bowls all came in different decades. 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s.

A lot of people used to think Green Bay could possibly put together a nice run after they won the 2010 Super Bowl and then went 15-1 the next season and looked to be headed back for another until Giants dominated them. You just never know in this league now. With the salary cap and how the contracts are, it's hard to keep a solid core together for a long time. Seattle and SF are going to be losing a lot of players in the next few seasons. Just can't afford to keep them. So we will see if they continue to draft well. Because Wilson and Kaep need a solid team around them. They are not leading a team by themselves.

I do think New England in the 2000s will be the last dynasty we will see.

Patriots aren't going anywhere. Unlike the Cowboys, that entire organization is built to win. Obviously Brady is a big part of it, but they can play random backup QB and make it to the playoffs.

2015 seattle FAs
chris cleamons
earl thomas
cliff avril
james carpenter
kj wright
richard sherman
byron maxwell

Thats big FAs just that yr alone. Thats 3/4th of their starting secondary in 2014

And next yr they're only 3 mil under the cap. And this yr they have golden Tate and brandon browner wont be resigned.

2016
russell okung
sidney rice
marshawn lynch
brandon mebane
bruce irvin
bobby wagner
russell wilson

you can have the drafts of the century the next two yrs and not draft well enough to replace what ur going to lose. Thats basically 85 of their starters becoming freeagents in the next 2 yrs

They can open up $12M by cutting Rice and Zach Miller. Sidney Rice is doing nothing right now with 15 receptions on the season and Zach Miller is on the way out the door. Not that I follow Seattle that closely but I do believe the team is very high on Luke Wilson moving forward.

They ditch both of those guys, carry over $3M and they're sitting at $18M underneath the 2014 cap. Also, they ditch both of those guys this year it makes their total cap figure for 2015 just about $70M. Basically they'll have like $54M in cap space going into 2015 if they do nothing but cut Miller and Rice this coming offseason AND use every single free cap dollar they have this year. Any surplus will carry over. Hell, they'd have $38M even if they kept those guys on the bench to do nothing.

Chris Clemons is 32 years old and coming off a down year. Even if he makes it through another season, he's not commanding a large contract at 33. They could cut him after this season and move to being $23M under the cap for 2014. Lynch is a non-issue starting the year at 30 in 2016.

Seattle is primed for a strong stretch right now. Their cap is in great shape. They could have what amounts to about $77M in cap space between 2014 and 2015 by cutting a couple of unproductive offensive guys and Chris Clemons.

Not to mention they don't have to even worry about replacing any of the guys you listed until another 2 drafts and 2 free agent periods have come and gone.
