Could the Dallas Cowboys draft a guard at #19?
https://thelandryhat.com/2018/02/10/dallas-cowboys-draft-guard-19/

The Dallas Cowboys have invested several first round picks into their offensive line. Could they do so again in the upcoming 2018 NFL Draft?
Between 2011 and 2014, the Dallas Cowboys spent three of their four first round selections on their offensive line. The results? Three perennial Pro Bowlers in left tackle Tyron Smith, center Travis Frederick and right guard Zack Martin. The latter quite possibly being the best player on the entire team.

Entering the 2018 offseason, the Cowboys certainly have a laundry list of team needs. Offensive line being one of them. But would Dallas consider drafting another offensive lineman with their first round selection in the upcoming NFL Draft? I believe the answer is yes...

...Finally, selecting at #19 guarantees that you get a talented prospect. But it simply may not be at the position you want. Current mock drafts have players like Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley, Florida State safety Derwin James and Washington defensive tackle Vita Vea all being taken before the Cowboys’ first selection. The simple fact is an offensive guard like Georgia’s Isaiah Wynn or UTEP’s Will Hernandez could be the best player available when Dallas’ number is finally called.

The Dallas Cowboys need to fill several holes on offense and defense. But could drafting another offensive lineman in the first round be too tempting to pass up?
Now that the offseason is officially underway, the Dallas Cowboys will further shift their focus into free agency and the 2018 draft class. While the Cowboys underwhelmed in 2017, they didn’t quite underwhelm enough, and with a 9-7 record, hold the 19th pick in the NFL draft.

While wide receiver, tight end, and safety might be the Cowboys’ biggest needs, Dallas hasn’t been shy about taking the best player on the board in the past. While they drafted out of necessity last year with the selection of Taco Charlton, that philosophy could certainly change, considering the Cowboys don’t appear as close to a contender as previously thought...

...Last year’s starting guard, Jonathan Cooper, will be an unrestricted free agent. While Cooper did have a nice season for the Cowboys, he’s underwhelmed for most of his playing career and remains injury prone. The Cowboys could re-sign Cooper, but wouldn’t it be better to have a 28-year-old with an injury history in a backup role? With the 19th pick, the Cowboys could be in a prime spot to grab one of the draft’s premier guards in Isaiah Wynn (Georgia) James Daniels (Iowa) and Billy Price (Ohio State). Adding one of those guys to a line that already boasts two of the games best interior lineman in Zack Martin and Travis Frederick could give a major boost to the Cowboys’ run game and in turn, their entire offense...

have 0 problem with taking a OG at 19....Isaiah Wynn,Georgia or Will Hernandez,Utep....either one comes in as a day1 starter and helps solidify our line.
If we pass....we better get Braden Smith,Auburn or Scott Queesenberry,Ucla...because it gets real slim at Guard.
If Hurst,Vea,James,Smith and Edmunds are gone...Wynn or Hernandez should be the pick.

Here is part of what this fan is watching as well...
SportsTalkLine NFL Draft Talk
NFL Draft 2018 – OT Connor Williams

Texas’ OT Connor Williams took time out of his preparation for the 2018 NFL Draft to talk with Connor Livesay.

Dominant? Check. Critical position? Check. Physical specimen? Check. Young? Check. Competitive? Double check.

Until recently Connor Willimas was Texas’ stud left tackle and arguably the best LT in the collegiate game. And to be frank, if you chose to argue against it, you would lose. The 20-year-old is a born NFL blindside protector. At 6’5″, 320 lbs he has nothing to fear from the NFL level athletes...

Would be dumb as dirt considering the value of the position.

I would not draft OG at 19 unless it’s the top kid from ND, but it won’t be. We must address defense or WR. We can get a starting G in round 2-3 or free agency.

If you're spending $50+m on your Oline starters, how do you pay your "skill" positions?

I guess that missing Smith at left tackle had absolutely no affect on the final outcome for the Cowboys...or didn't affect two mid season losses that were runaways. Nooooooo

I think my reaction would be a sigh of relief while shaking my head at the resources we're throwing at the offensive line.

If the offense is completely dominant with who they already have at skill positions, and never miss a beat along the offensive line...then paint this fan impressed.

Sure it did, but we don't need all first rounders in order to have a good Oline.

(meant to quote your previous post - you're just too fast for my feeble brain)

Talk about long termed dominance, low cost, or trade bait at the first round level of one of the players in the future...smart?

Id rather have Isaiah Wynn at 19 than to go dumpster diving for a starter.
Draft Wynn,re-sign Cooper....if Smith gets hurt Wynn can be the swing Tackle and Coop fills in at G.
Im not saying take Wynn over Derwin James,S-Fsu or one of the DTs...but if they are gone...Im taking Wynn.
Stop screwin' around w/the o-line and get back to imposing your will on people.
Wynn,Hernandez and Price are not gonna be there at 50.We pass over them,we are at the mercy of the board...hoping we get 1 we like in the 3rd,4th or 5th.
Take Wynn...he is a day1 starter.

how far can you stretch this OG class tho...after Wynn,Hernandez and Price you have:
Braden Smith,Auburn-2nd Rd
Austin Corbett,Nevada-2nd Rd
Sean Welsh,Iowa-4th Rd
Skyler Phillips,Idaho St-4th Rd

everyone needs OL so I dont like our chances that one of those 4 DONT get picked.
If James,Hurst,Vea and Edmunds are gone...Im taking Wynn.

If we can't find someone to plug at left guard in the 3rd or 4th round and impose our will while having the best Left Tackle, Center, & Guard in the game, and a mean athletic freak at RT then our problem is not talent.
