Could this be what FO is thinking?

Thinking out loud here.

This is a 2-3 year plan based on Romo completely. Everything is planned around this......Therefore.....

1. Franchise Dez this year AND next year unless you can get a contract that's tolerable long term since if Romo is done we don't have a QB there's no point of paying for a franchise WR or need to cut him and eat up cap space.

2. Don't want to spent crazy money on Murray because your objective is build your lines on both sides so whomever is running, passing and catching have extra second or two to get open or they will open up big enough holes for any decent RB to get through. Again, they want a contract that's heavy in 2-3 years and be able to dump it if Romo is done.

3. Continue to build this team from inside out (OL/DL) and via draft long term. Shop at thrift store for FAs and hope to hit one every year. If Romo is done in 2-3 years then we'll probably "suck for LUCK" type of team and at that point because the lines are in good shape we hope to get a franchise QB at top of the draft? Hope that this will be a quicker turn around because the core is good?

It is inexcusable to have a plan that doesn't revolve around adding premier FA's every season. You can't get better and win a Super Bowl without doing that. Or so I have been led to believe...

I don't think many people (if any) are saying that. Most people want to selectively be able to add talent in FA, be it top tier or low tier. If you want to be successful you add talent from all available sources. Ruling out top tier FA is just as dumb as saying sign a top tier player every year.

And I haven't seen a single person suggest we do that.

The majority of the team and coaching staff have a 2-3 yr window to get something done as the roster sits today.

If Romo's window is 2-3 years then keeping Murray should be a big part of that. Any contract he gets will be 80-90% done after 3 years. Romo doesn't need to deal with a learning curve at RB.

I think Murray wants a contract with BIG guarantee money which will be on the books for 5-6 yrs. I don't think the FO really want that and FO believes that Murray is more a product of the line than himself (right or wrong).

Most teams, yes. But JJ is owner and GM. Don't need and can't fire GM. He's gone from 2-3 yrs span to perhaps becoming too patient with staff and building a team over long haul.

I would add WR to that also.

It doesn't matter who is on the team once Romo is done................we are going to suck and suck hard.

I find that the Tag is a hindrance to our team as it swallows up a ton of cap space....

Im hoping we are using it strictly to extend our contract negotiations with Dez and finish the deal soon so we can open up our check book a little more and give us a few more mid level pieces compared to the bones and scrapes we seem to be staring at currently in our predicament

What exactly is bad about having a franchise wr to help a young qb?

Nothing. But we need to have a young developing QB and I don't see it in the plans. However, it would be wasting tremendous cap space if we have 10-15 million tied up on a WR that's not tradable.

Well there should be 5 other teams on a limited QB window as well. Let's remember where QB's have been found.... I think it relates to hitting on the picks you make. We had **** drafts for a few years and it showed, but thankfully that changed recently.
