Could Ware and Jared Allen both break the NFL sack record this season?

What the sacks really show is that we've frittered away a huge chunk of the career of one of the three or four best defensive players the Cowboys have ever had.

Agree. It's a travesty that players like Witten, Ware, etc. have only 1 playoff win to show for their careers to date.

Witten's been with us 8 years; Ware, 6.

Yes it is. I am hoping that before both are done that the team has a Strahan-Giants like run to get them a ring. It will be too bad to see these guys go their entire career with one freaking playoff win.

Maybe you should get a reality check and realize that no one player is going to get pressure on every single play. It takes more than ONE defensive player to get pressure on a qb so laying it all on Ware is unfair. No one was getting pressure last night.

No need to get so hostile. I wasn't being critical of Ware, and I don't have ridiculously high expectations.

Most everyone around here will take offense to anything said about Ware that isn't holy praise. All I'm pointing out is what I think the guy was trying to say earlier-- Quality over quantity... who cares about some silly record. It'd be nice for DeMarcus to have, but sack numbers don't tell the whole story. Ware's had some really good games where he didn't get the QB to the ground but made an impact on the game with pressure.

Geez. Lighten up.

Ware has a real possibility of making the HOF if he can make at least 1 of the following happen:

1) set new NFL sack record--particularly if he goes over 25.

2) win a SB with outstanding play including at least 1 sack.

3) named most MVP in the SB.

4) named DPOY at least once.

5) continue to be named to the pro bowl.

If he can't accomplish at least one of the above, believe it more likely he will simply just be considered a really good pass rusher, etc but won't get to the HOF. If he would get more help from his defensive coworkers, would be a whole lot easier for him.

If Andre Tippett made the Hall of Fame, Ware should be able to make it even if he just has three or four mediocre seasons after this. Tippett had double-digit sacks only three times and never led the league. Ware's already had six consecutive seasons with at least 11 sacks (joining Reggie White as the only players to do that), and he has led the league in sacks twice (tying the record). Tippett never won a Super Bowl, was never DPOY and made the Pro Bowl only five times in 11 years (Ware will make it six times in seven years this season).

Of course, if Tippett had been a Cowboy, he would never sniff the Hall of Fame.

the real NFL is different from you mom's basement Madden NFL
It's way easier to get four sacks and no pressures than it is to get pressure on every play in Madden...

Too bad we couldnt create a nano blitz for the Cowboys to use in real life. lol

Exactly.

Getting 4 sacks requires 4 plays to go your way, and all the way.

Creating pressure on every play requires about 30 or more plays to go your way.

People who criticize Ware and say, "He never gets a sack when it counts most" miss the fact that "when it counts most" is when the opposing offense most needs to protect its QB, and hence is doing its best likewise to "protect the QB when it counts most".

Not to mention that if you start to "get pressure on every single play," the opposing offense will take notice, and start assigning a running back to chip-block you each time.

Or have you double-teamed each time.

Either way, the offense will take notice, and do something. You're not going to be allowed to continue to create havoc every single play.

(Unless you're the Eagles OC in 2007 who allowed Osi Umenyiora to eat Winston Justice for something like 6 sacks on McNabb singlehandedly.)

Did Favre come out of retirement...for Allen...

He wouldn't take a dive for a Dallas palyer...but he will for anyone else...

Hard to believe the record is only 22.5. And both players are almost there halfway through the season. That record's going down.

It is kind of a low number when you think about it. To break that sack record, all you need to do is record 1.5 sacks per game, every game of the season.

1.5 sacks per game * 16 games = 24 sacks.

I honestly think Ware, if he continues his current rampage through the NFL for several seasons, will make it into the HOF with or without a Super Bowl.
