The NFL had to deal with this a few years ago with another team and implemented policies for dealing it.

I think the NFL Commissioner has to approve it and it's not a quick decision as it would require looking at his contract, interviewing the coach-player and likely team officials.

The reason is because the NFL doesn't want teams getting around roster/PS limits by storing players on their staff unless/until they need them so they can add them later to their roster.

True, but given how a developmental guys rookie deal would align with Daks, it might be about a year…possibly two….too soon for that to make sense.

That’s why bringing in Milton never made much sense, timing and opportunity-wise.

Actually it doesn’t matter. No Dak, no deep playoff run. This one ought to invite some cute comments, but it’s entirely true.

Daks successor is definitely neither Milton or Howell. What we need is a solid option, preferably two, if Dak has to miss like 4-6 games.

21 games started (missed 2025 due to injury), 5-16 record, 339/556 passing (61.0 percent), 3899 yards, 21 TD's, 16 picks, 82.7 rating.

In his last season played (2024) he was 2-10 with the Titans with 13 TDs and 12 picks.

BTW, Dan Reeves was the NFL's last player-coach in 1970 when he was a RB and an assistant coach for the Cowboys.

Hadn’t thought of that. I saw it as a possible advantage when Greer was first added as a coach….then again not completely unprecedented with Kellen Moore, but I figuring this is moot now with Milton back in the fold.
