Countering the blitz

What? They blitzed Sam Bradford the week before. They should have known they would blitz a rookie QB.

I should have clarified it better. They did different blitzes. Most of the ones against Minnesota were zone blitzes I believe. I think they blitzed 11 times vs. Bradford and rarely were there more than 5 coming (I didn't look at all of them). Their DC is not a big blitzing guy so Dallas wasn't that prepared for it. I think Witten said as much on the radio today. They went to zero coverage more often against Dallas.

I agree that Dallas probably should have expected it, but it's not like they collapsed and put up a dud like the Steelers did. They scored 23 (an NFL average) in regulation and that included a totally wasted possession inside the 10 (the INT) and a short FG. Had they hit on one or two passes you're looking at 35 points or more.

my life is a little easier (living near Philly) with a Cowboys win.

Delayed draws to Zeke and either slants or bubble screens to Dez would be perfect.

I live in Virginia, so my life is much easier after a Cowboys win, an Eagles loss, and a Washington meltdown tie. Of course I'm married to an Eagles fan, so not everything is easy after an Eagles loss.

I would have loved to have seen some slants or screens to slow down the rush.

I think it was Sturm on the radio today talking about how Philly was trying to bait Dak into throwing to Bease and Witten. They were dropping into those passing lanes hoping that he'd force it to them under pressure. That led to more of the targets for Dez. If Dak had taken what Philly wanted there could have been a lot more interceptions.

The other guys have coaches too.

Lol. GB blitzed a lot as well and Dak burned them. Philly just has a better D and secondary. I've never seen so many free Blitzers in awhile!

Beasley wasn't in the game a lot early on. Keep the Beas on the field.

I'm sure Romo would have been better but it's not like this team has been good against a good blitzing team. Jim Haslett used to kill Romo even when Deadkskins had a bad defense.

JG's offense had no answers for it and it would take Romo's Jedi magic to beat it.

Some of them were just all out blitzes and having more men lined up than we had blocking a few second before the snap... we should have recognized them...

Yes. He should have, the coaches may have helped more, and the receivers and QB should have been on the same page in making the hot read. The problem is they were sending men from all over, dropping men into coverage and rushing LBers, and disguising the coverages well. It is hard to send the right receiver across the middle when you don't know where people are lined up. It is a recipe for INTs. Philly has a very good defense.

It will take a few years for Dak to be able to play at another level making those kinds of presnap reads reliably and consistently.

Dallas didn't expect the blitz so it took a while for them to adjust. Philly hadn't done that in their previous games this season.

Now that Dallas has some film to study, you can expect that they will be able to have Dak handle it better. Other than the injuries to the secondary, this was almost a perfect case scenario. Tons of "teachable moments" and they still came away with the victory. Dak gets more confidence that he can rebound from adversity too.

HIt a few long balls for TDs and 21 points will quickly make those blitzes seem like the worst idea ever. They are capable, just need to execute. It's the teams that can cause havoc only rushing 4 that you need to be afraid of.

"Tons of teachable moments" is an understatement. Dak has so many mistakes to learn from from this last game that I'll be surprised if he even has time to make it the practice field with all the tape notes he will have to take.

Really not worried about most of the teams in this league blitzing us. The few who can get there will give us trouble. The rest will be burned for trying. If you're pickign yoru poison, sure, try Dak over Zeke right now. But with Dez back in the lineup, Beasley, Witten, and our OL, you're going to get burned, either way.

dallas has always had problems with the blitz's even when tony is playing,
That is how tony got hurt last 3 times, on a blitz, usually a delay.

Philly didn't win but they did give the rest of the league the blueprint on how to beat us or at the very least make life hard. Hopefully we can come up with some plays to counter the blitz to stop teams from sending everything at dak. Some quick screens to Zeke or some delayed draws. What say you zone?
Anything, as long as it's not "throw the ball up into the air while falling backward." I'm still in shock that none of those throws were intercepted. If even one had, the conversations here over the last few days would have been completely different.

This particular type of blitz has gave us fits over the years. I thought we solved it after 2014.. Well it reared its ugly head Sunday Night.

Other teams might see what they did and attempt to do the same but very few have the defensive talent available to do what they can. I'm sure that the staff will take a look at the film and try to devise ways to counteract what Philly and other teams might do in the future.

There's no doubt that they'll advise Dak on what measures to take to overcome those pressures and make things work out much better. Finding ways to use Beasley more generously than he did might help considerably as well as the quick screens to Zeke. Lucky might be of help as well.

A rookie QB playing in only his 6th game struggled a bit with some exotic blitzes. I really am not concerned at all. The more he sees the more he learns. We saw it already at the end or regulation and OT
