you aren't seeing him much b/c he is the 3rd string FS and hasn't been playing corner. thus he is not in on many plays except getting some tackles.

I still have not figured out the reasoning behind the move to FS, and why Wade doesn't see him as an option at CB, but i think i heard on Talkin' Cowboys that it had to do with him being unfamiliar with different defensive schemes since he came from a small school where he was just told to man-up on the best receiver (no zones, cushions, etc)

However, there has not been a definitive answer to this mystery.

I recorded the Denver game and watched him again and noted that he showed an aversion to contact (when he got in on the D late), it appeared. Very tentative, severely lacking the killer instincts you like to see in a safety. Maybe he will grow in to that position, though, he said hopefully.

I heard he was fast but a long strider type fast. They said that was more suited for FS that CB.

not everyone -- some of us pointed out how he played against crap competition and would be lucky to make the team....

Wade did say he had 'long' speed, which I interpret to mean he doesn't have lateral quickness/accelleration. Wade said his chance was S, not CB.

Spagnola has said that he didn't have the hip turn that an nfl corner needs.

Yeah, but his "measureables" were "elite" -- so people got huge bananas in their pockets over him, despite the fact that he played for a college that would have had trouble with good HS teams.

We knew he was a long shot` I was hopeful he or another long shot would step up at CB` I have little faith in Jones or Reeves to step it up to starter potential after 3 seasons` They are backups although it is possible one could end up starting due to injury even at the third corner` He has a shot at the PS at safety` Which is fine since he is a late round pick from a small school

People from small schools have made the HOF. Larry Allen is from a tiny school and will make it. Just because you came from low level competition means very little once you get in the NFL. All players have to adjust to the speed/quickness of the Pro Game. Some can and some can't. He had very good measureables which is why he was picked late. From what Wade has said he seems to not have the flexibility/quickness a CB needs, but might make a good FS- especially with his speed. We shall see.

I was one...I had hope that he could push Aaron Glenn out.

I shot a little lower and hoped he would push Reeves out!

There is a lot of great athletes at CB in college. The majority are covering future stock brokers and gym teachers.

Courtneys draft bio sounded great. Then I read Alan Balls and I was like, hey, this 7th rounder also sounds like a starter! Then when Joey Thomas started playing well I went back and read his! Same profile! We now have 6 CBs picked after round 6 who should all start. I think they just cut and paste.

And there's your answer. He doesn't change direction quickly/fluidly enough to play CB.

He'll be lucky to make the PS.

Possible does not equal probable.

Just because small school guys have made it before doesn't mean that the size of the school doesn't make a huge difference in success rates.
