I have no idea if there's an NFL rule on the process but think it would be cool if there were 3 elected season long captains, one each from offense/defense and ST, and then the team votes the remaining 3 captains each week.

That's the difference between Garrett and Belicheck. Garrett felt the need to get permission first. The Patriots just decided to announce 7 and send them out there tonight until the league tells them they can't. Even then, I doubt they will care. They will just pay the fine. They dont need permission for anything. They do what they want until caught and stopped.

Well, that is of course the least important difference between the 2

One is a real HC, independent, makes coaching and personnel decisions, knows football, intelligent and hard working, not a lap dog of the owner
