This looks like it. Forgive me if I don't understand how a man gaining 1000+ yards can hurt.

Well... I gotta tell ya.... I have bruised my thigh many times in the sports bar jumping outta my booth seat when we scored first downs or TD's.

Thats one way it could hurt :lmao2:

The way I read Panch's post it seems to me as though he was reminiscing what once was and was expressing the pain to know what is now after the dumb down has long completed.

I'm surprised that Walker only had one, thousand yard season with us.

It should not be that surprising. He had to share the back field with a still effective Tony Dorsett for two seasons(86 &87). He also had to miss 4 games in 1987 due to the strike and still finished 6th in the NFL in rushing. Once he became the lone back in Dallas in 1988 he put up the big rushing yards with his 1514 total second only to Eric Dickerson. Of course we all know he was only in Dallas a few games in 1989 before The Trade.

One other thing to consider is that Landry got a lot out of Walker besides rushing yards his first two seasons. He had 837 receiving yards in 1986 and 715 receiving yards in 1987. He finished 7th in 1986 and 1st in 1987 in yards from scrimmage. He even had 505 receiving yards in 1988, which allowed him to finish 3rd in yards from scrimmage with 2019 yards. He was doing then what Reggie Bush is supposed to be doing now.

I've often wondered how good Herschel, in his prime, could have been behind our 90's O-line.

JJ came real close in 2005. He needed only - what was it? - 40 or so yds in the last game and did not get it. It should be dead easy to get MB his 19.

Actually it was worse than that, in 2005 he only needed 7 yards to get the grand.

JJ ended up 7 yds short, but he needed I think around 40 going into the game and did not get it.

Dorsett was one of the greatest backs in NFL history...

Every time he got the ball, much like Emmitt, you felt he could break it. Dorsett also had blazing speed and could get the corner pretty easily...

He was the smoothest RB I've ever seen. He looked like he was gliding out there...

You are quite right trickblue, TD was one of the best ever. If he would have been the feature back like Emmitt was he would have put up higher numbers but he shared carries with guys throughout his career: Newhouse, Laidlaw, Springs, Newsome, and then Walker.

I did a study once on the top 20 RBs and how much of a percentage of the offense they were and TD was one of the lowest in % of rushing offense (I'll have to dig that out again).

The guy was awesome and is underrated by many who never got to see him play.

Yes, very smooth. And rarely did he get hit squarely. He was artful in avoiding the big hit.

BUT then again he probably lasted longer because he did not get more carries. He was a top back for 10 full seasons. The list of RBs of which that can be said is very short.
