EVERY team gets help on scoring from it's defense/ST. The Cowboys weren't alone in this. Unless you did this for every team and Cowboys came out clearly benefiting more than all the rest, this argument is bogus.

I think it's a little low, but we have to remember that Williams hasn't really done that much, and the rest of the guys in the group are even more unproven. I don't think Dez is anywhere close to Megatron, and I don't think he is the best WR in the league if we exclude him.

Of the teams that had more points than Dallas, only Chicago had more defensive TDs. Cinci and KC - just behind Dallas in total points - had the same number of TDs and one more, so I think its fair to assume that the #4 ranking would drop.

Quick glance, GB and NO would both pass Dallas.

I'm not saying Dallas would drop from 4th to 20th or anything like that, but the defense/ST handed the offense a ton of points.

Stupendous Man is a great avatar.

Thanks. Still my all time favorite comic strip and Stupendous Man bits were some of my favorite story lines within it. I sure wish Bill Watterson would unretire already

I at one time owned all of the Calvin and Hobbes collections. A friend of mine even tried to create and program a fighting game featuring all of the normal characters as well as Stupendous Man, Spaceman Spiff and Tracer Bullet! Isn't that nuts?!!

I think its pretty fair. You have a monster in Dez, but a whole lot of unknown after that. Is Williams ready to step up and be a starting player? Personally I think he can be that player, but that doesn't mean we should rank Dallas higher based on what's possible. I really like our group, but who other than Dez and Witten have much of a track record?

It's not fair when you see who they ranked ahead of them. Philly? They have a guy in Maclin who hasn't played in over 12 months and coming off a major injury and Cooper, who had a breakout year but isn't exactly a #1 WR in this league and two TEs who are not better than Witten.

So yeah........ these rankings are laughable.

Denver is really overrated. Remember, Eric Decker is gone, so it's just Welker (past prime) Thomas&Thomas. Good. Still high on the list, but they aren't the best, though Peyton will make them look better.

Yeah. Maclin has never been anything more than average and is injury prone, coming off a major injury. Cooper just had his best year (4th year in the league) and was only 99 yards ahead of our rookie, TWill (prior to that never cracked 350 yards receiving). Celek is good, but overall average. Ertz is about the same... overall the two of them combined last year?

Celek + Ertz: 971 yds 9 Tds

Which you may notice isn't that much better than Witten by himself: 851 yds, 8 tds.

Let's not forget about Williams, either. Quietly had a better rookie year than Dez.

Teams (IMO) with a clear-cut better receiving group:
- Chicago
- San Francisco
- Detroit Lions
- Atlanta
- Denver
- Green Bay
- Indianapolis

I think Beasley is the bigger factor than Williams at this point.

He was a guy I watched intently on All-22 last year. Slot corners could not cover the guy. His inside move was incredibly difficult for corners to cover and when they would cheat to the inside, he could beat them on an outside move. I will admit that his blocking does stink and the league really likes to go 11 personnel so they can have good run and passing threat possibilities.

I think Witten is too often used incorrectly. The Eagles game at the end of the year is how Witten should be used....running primarily intermediate routes and short routes *past* the chains with the occasional deep route. I'm hoping Linehan is smart enough to avoid having Witten run those short pass patterns that are short of the first down marker.

I pretty much agree with your list, but why did you put Arizona ahead of us?

You're not a closet Cardinal fan are you? :p

Additionally, having Philly above the Cardinals was a joke. They have two WRs in Fitzgerald and Floyd that are better than any receiver on the Eagles roster.

Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald are a pretty good 1-2 punch at WR. I don't know what they have at WR3 - WR5 or TE.

No way man! Silver, Blue, Flash and Pizzazz forever!

I probably just give the Cowboys a harder time in an effort to be objective. I know the Cowboys WRs better than I do other WR corps not in the NFCE. I can't, in good conscience, give praise to Beasley, Harris, Street since they're such unknowns around the league, though I think the depth there is good enough. Every team has their depth players they're excited about.

Overall, I think their starting tandem is better as of now. Dez over Fitz, but Floyd quite a bit ahead of TWill for now. Andre Roberts is better than our 3rd guy (whoever he is) as of now too. Witten makes it close, though, so if someone disagreed I wouldn't mind.

we should be in the top 10 considering Dez.

Halfing said that, I think we half elevated Dez to that of Michael Irvin and he ain't no Michael irvin. Not even close.

I think some Wr's are benefiting from good Qbs, and running games and some wr's are just that much better. We have a good corp, including the tes, IF they are utilized correctly. sadly we have coaches who look at their strengts and say "who cares" and pretty much trost them out to do the best they can. Take that into considersation and an OC who sees something working and stops it, yes, its always going to be hard to be looked at good. On the other side, you can have a moron say "I have no idea what i am doing, thank god megatron does" so its beneficial to look at whats going on with each team than try to figure it out.

Curious, why do you think San Fran's receiving group isn't as good?

Crabtree
Boldin
Stevie Johnson
Vernon Davis

man, I forgot about Stevie Johnson. I change my answer to SF being 2nd best, if not the best.

I know its bleacher report, and a lot of you take it with a grain of salt.
But i find it hard how anyone can rank 15 more teams ahead of the cowboys wide recievers when you have Bryant and Witten.http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2091082-power-ranking-nfl-receiver-depth-charts/page/18

The trouble with these rankings is they rarely take unit cohesion in consideration. So, while comparing our Wr's on paper (excluding Te's) to other receiving cores may render similiar results, when you consider the comination of our Qb (who despite his mind-boggling gaffs, should still be considered above average) Rb's (Murray being a year removed from Pro Bowl honors), our Te's (which includes a future Hall of Famer in Witten) and an Ol that seems primed for greatness, you can predict that the receivers could very well end up being top 10 in terms of overall effectiveness, if the OC uses them correctly (e.g. mixes up run, playaction, draws, screens and passes in a manner that keeps opposing defenses off balance).

There are about a dozen that you could throw into a hat and spit out a ranking of 5-17. Dallas is one of them.
Because they included TEs, I'd think we'd for sure be higher than 16 though.
