Cowboys 2017 cash spending lowest in NFL?

About 10% of the Cowboys 2017 salary cap was dead money, mostly Tony Romo - gone, but still taking up cap space. Another 30% of it went to Dez, Witten, Tyrone Crawford and Sean Lee. In short, that's 4 active players for 40% of our cap space.

That left 60% of the cap to fill out the rest of the roster.

So after 2018, Romo is completely off the books?

DAL took unreasonably large caps on Dez, Witten and Crawford....... they spent an extra 18m they didn't have to on the cap

Everyone complains when it is Dead Cap but spending 30m instead of paying 11m is the exact same thing ....... dumb people want to avoid Dead Cap space by taking huge present day cap hits for no reason

That is space that could be spent on improving the team....... there is no other way to spin it

If you add that wasted 18m to the 11m we carried over and that is 30m in cap space wasted

Stephen has everyone fooled that being a good drafting team excuses him from spending any money on Free Agents
Thank you buddy!

The owners can hold back a lot of CAP $$$$$ and only have to spend up to a certain % of that over a 5 year averaged period.
So the owners keep the extra $$$$$ back and may use it later.

Lol! Don't be so naive, there's not such thing as use it later. The cap is in not in place to promote parity and competition is to maximize revenue by limiting the amount of salary they can spent in a year driven by a bogus deferment system.

Yes. They can use it later.
Look at Cleveland as a big example.

If the team does not spend up to 89%, I think that is close to the %, of their CAP over a 5 year period they pay the $$$$$ back to the league.
Any unspent $$$$$$ rolls forward into the next year.

But you are right in that the owners can maximize the revenue to themselves they do not spend.
They keep their own books.
