It doesn’t have to be wrong to not apply to the situation or circumstances.
Sure, the analytics aren't wrong or disproven by a single or even a few examples of failures. However, if the stats don't apply, it's a wrong application. You're going to be hardpressed to explain how poor execution in a given game at a given time counters the analytics win probability calculations. Generally speaking, it's an attempt at proving a negative.
By the analytics, MM made the right decision to go for it in both the ATL and the DEN games, with differing results.
