Sure, the analytics aren't wrong or disproven by a single or even a few examples of failures. However, if the stats don't apply, it's a wrong application. You're going to be hardpressed to explain how poor execution in a given game at a given time counters the analytics win probability calculations. Generally speaking, it's an attempt at proving a negative.

By the analytics, MM made the right decision to go for it in both the ATL and the DEN games, with differing results.

Again, I’m not disagreeing the concept of analytics just how it’s applied in these circumstances . I’m questioning his judgment when he uses it.
