RELEASED *** Cowboys 53-player Roster Cuts/Released Thread ***

Looks like a lot of PUP/IR stashes to help get this roster down to 53.

Turner, Mafah, Mingo, Overshown, Revel, and Butler so far. The only question is who gets cut once those guys are able to return.
Other players most likely will get injured as well. There will be some lower level players that will be cut. Say someone like Hall makes it because of all the CB injuries. He will be a candidate to be cut.

this is actually a fun day. Lots of speculation and what-ifs. Which is why we're all here. Carry on.

My only thing to contribute really:

If you think we have an outside shot at the playoffs- you gotta sign a vet backup QB. For me, it would be Mike White.

But if you think we have no chance at the playoffs, keep Milton as the # 2 for this year to monitor his progress.

I watched every defensive play when Mazi was in the game against the Falcons. In my opinion, he is a terrible defensive lineman. The only play he made was because the offensive line failed to block Mazi, and he tackled the ball carrier for a loss. That was a freebie. The entire rest of the game, he was being pushed around by the second and third stringers like he was a floor polisher. I actually think a floor polisher has more strength and force than Mazi. I really feel bad for the guy. I remember when we drafted him and they told us he was incredibly strong, athletic, and a freak. None of that was true. He will stay on the team because we have no one better. That is because we have no General Manager. We should not draft any more Tacos, Schoons, or Mazi's from Michigan. OBTW, Schoon should not make the team. We have solid backups to Ferguson, not named Schoonmaker.
He is suppose to maintain his gap and take on double teams which he did the majority of time. He's a NT.

You are forgetting the structure of the FO here. It is not normal to other teams. So I am told.
From what Jerry has said, most decisions are made by committee, as the discuss everything. It is not up to on person.

They were far more active in 2025 than in 2024. Brian picked his own coaches, though I am sure there were discussions on it as well.
If we are just comparing 2025 to 2024 then I'll agree as that was a quirky year, but overall MM was free to (mostly) pick his own coaches and did so through guys he had connections with...until 2024 when Zimmer was likely approved by MM but recommended by Jerry. Similar situation with Schottenheimer/Eberflus this year. Same situation with hiring Garrett before his HC, Moore when MM came on, etc. We know Jerry doesn't run everything through a committee and he admitted so for the Lance trade. Jerry has had and continues to have his finger prints all over the team.

Lance/Milton are two very similar acquisitions
Eberflus/Zimmer are two very similar situations to bring on as DC
Bigger offseason moves (Murray/Pickens) happen via trade, similar to Cooks/Gilmore.

I'm sure the front office targets guys who fit the coaching staff schemes, but that committee is probably pretty top heavy between Jerry/Stephen/McClay. With the exception of 2024 I'm just not seeing a ton of different approaches to roster building and it feels like we are going through the same tricks. Not saying all the Cowboys moves are bad this offseason either, it just feels very on par with other offseason IMO. It doesnt feel like this team is under different management with a different direction than other years in recent history.

Those things usually sort themselves out with injuries.

Whats sad is that we've had such bad DT play the last few years that this has become the expectation. Being the big immovable object is not good DT play in the modern game.
Good point. The way the game is played now I think the Cowboys view the starters as Osa and Solomon Thomas. Just worried about how they will hold up vs. the run.

Cutting Holden was a bit of a surprise. PS maybe??
Not at all.
Limited route tree and production in 5 seasons at 2 major college programs.
Catching a few balls in practices when the QB gets an extra second to hold onto the ball isn’t going to hide why he was considered a low priority UDFA!
