It really is common sense to anyone who has ever played football.

These guys are getting put through the mill right now so you can't constantly harp on them when they aren't perfect.

It's a huge difference in understanding the game and knowing what the players are going through when you've played opposed to never have played. HUGE difference!!!! You can tell who has played and who hasn't just by reading the posts on the board. A lot of times it's extremely obvious...

yentl, my sentiments exactly,

Depth isn't going to be a problem if the starters have a hard time adjusting to/get accustomed to the contact of an NFL game.

I do agree that some kind of balance needs to be reached but this limited contact and running around with shorts and helmets is ********. It will come back to bite us in the ***. You hit the nail on the head!
Dont misunderstand me, I am not saying hit and tackle every day, but at least do it once a week to see if the players will do that in practice so in game time you will know if they are capable of it or not.

Late in the year, if we are still in the hunt, when championship teams are battle tested and used to the weekly contact and rigors of the game we will fade off as usual......then we will all sit around and wonder what could have possibly been the problem????

Ever wonder why spencer runs around the ot instead of going through him or filling up the hole, its because wade doesnt emphasize that enough in training camp with hitting and tackling. How do you know if a player will fill that hole or move that player back on the line of scrimmage if you dont allow him or see if that player will do that?

This is how Jimmy Johnson's teams beat the packers, 49ers and bills and even steelers, they were battle tested. Used to getting hit, but giving the blows to the other team instead. Ever wonder why wade phillips teams fade in the playoffs, they are soft and not battle tested.

A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals.

Did you expect them to look flawless in their first game together, I didn't.

Is that what I said? They had their sloppy moments and have some work to do, that's all.

Dude reread your own post. You said "the starters didn't actually look flawless" as if you expected them to. You said it, I didn't. It's their first preseason game, of course they need work but the starting units did look very good. The starting O had 2 drives, 1 went 3 and out and the other went straight down the field for 6. The D gave up 3pts on a very questionable call in GS. They looked damn good to me.

It may have showed within our backups but not our starters. It"s my starters, as a UNIT, that I'm concerned with. I don't care how the backups look as a UNIT, they will never be on the field at the same time just as no other teams backups will be either. How the backups look as a UNIT has jack to do with how they look individually when playing with the starters..

This is dead on balls accurate. That's why how the 2nd string line plays as a unit means squat to me. All we need are 2 good backup options (although 3 would be nice), possibly Free and Holland, and that should suffice for the regular season unless a rash of catastrophic injuries occur ... and then you're screwed anyway.

That's why the preseason is about analyzing individuals not entire units. If Free and Holland play with 3 paraplegics (and they just might be) then obviously the entire unit looks like crap. But how the guys that actually might see the field look is all that matters to me.

With that being said I hope nothing happens to Gurode this year because backup center is the one position on the OL where I still have deep concerns.

So............the pass protection is inconsistent, Romo is all over the place with his accuracy, and Spencer is MIA: sounds like last season. seriously.

Yeah, the Cowboys came out flat Thursday, and one has to wonder why. I frankly was disappointed with the second team's effort.
