5:44:59 pm Cowboys WR Miles Austin had a drop on a slant that would have been a huge play versus the Raiders. In this afternoon's session, Austin has made some very tough adjusting catches from QB's Tony Romo and Jon Kitna.

One of the areas that the Cowboys really struggled versus the Raiders was the pass protection from their RBs. In the first snap of team, LB Bobby Carpenter blitzed and RB Marion Barber didn't lay a glove on him.

Cowboys QB Tony Romo has really struggled with his accuracy early in the 7 on 7 period. Romo has had WR's open but he has missed low, high and behind. The usually polite Alamodome crowd is letting him know about his problems.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips has high expectations for LB Anthony Spencer this season. Spencer had some good pass rushes in the Raiders game but he needs more to take pressure off LB DeMarcus Ware .

The Cowboys have begun their second practice of the day. Helmets and shoulder pads are the dress of the day. This morning was a walk through was geared to try and correct some of the many mistakes that were made in the Raiders contest.

So............the pass protection is inconsistent, Romo is all over the place with his accuracy, and Spencer is MIA: sounds like last season. seriously.

I was at that practice and it looked to me that just the special teams players were in pads, but everybody had helmets on without shoulder pads...

Just an FYI

thanks doomsday, im not fond of this no hitting or tackling in practices, only time will tell.

I do know this, even if coach cupcake wade doesnt realize it or not, being soft with players isnt going to cut it; and no hitting getting your team in hitting shape isnt going to cut it either.

if this is a bad year and i hope not, but if it is, will be the last year with coach cupcake;
i just dont see how jerry jones sticks with wade if he doesnt win some playoff games, just dont see it;

I think we might be over-valuing the whole tackling and stuff in camp...the Eagles have been tackling/hitting since like day one and they've got ACLs and other injuries to key players. I think player health should come first and foremost.

Sound like our team needs to have perfect practices everytime out.:rolleyes: Folks its fricken preseason, players are tired from camp, they just got back from a road trip, and every practice isn't going to be crisp and perfect. It's practice!! Don't know how many of you have been thru a training camp but it's rough. All teams go thru this, not just ours. Romo looked pretty good the other nite. Relax!!

A voice of reason. Thank you.

It just amazes me how some fans react to every lil bit of info coming out of camp. It really helps to have played the game and gone thru several training camps before and thats on any level really. Practices aren't always pretty and its tough to stay focused all the time. Our starters looked good the other nite and that's what I'm concerned with...

I think you need to strike a balance, I dont see how you can be ready to tackle and go all out if you NEVER hit in practice. Maybe Reid and Singletary do too much of it, but its hard to argue that doing none is good.

DUDE! we can't hit in practice cause we don't have any depth behind our starters! hell our top 2 corners have gotten hurt without even playing a game yet and you wanna tackle in practice? get outta here with that.

i'm ok with no tackling right now..We have Zero Depth. Also not worried about Romo right now or poor blocking. it's an issues but with this depth we're just going to have to wait it out for the regular season.

Normally I'd agree, but Wade did make it a point to call out the team for a bad practice on Tuesday before they left for Oakland and was worried about it.

I think it showed a bit in the game. BUT, its Game 1 of the pre-season, so let's just hope things do improve overall.

It may have showed within our backups but not our starters. It"s my starters, as a UNIT, that I'm concerned with. I don't care how the backups look as a UNIT, they will never be on the field at the same time just as no other teams backups will be either. How the backups look as a UNIT has jack to do with how they look individually when playing with the starters..

The starters didn't exactly look flawless as a unit either, let's not get overboard in either direction here. There is definitely work to do.

Did you expect them to look flawless in their first game together, I didn't. They looked pretty good tho and there's always work to do, that never stops. I liked what I saw from the starting unit in the first outing together...

It really is common sense to anyone who has ever played football.

These guys are getting put through the mill right now so you can't constantly harp on them when they aren't perfect.

Depth isn't going to be a problem if the starters have a hard time adjusting to/get accustomed to the contact of an NFL game.

I do agree that some kind of balance needs to be reached but this limited contact and running around with shorts and helmets is ********. It will come back to bite us in the ***.

Late in the year, if we are still in the hunt, when championship teams are battle tested and used to the weekly contact and rigors of the game we will fade off as usual......then we will all sit around and wonder what could have possibly been the problem????
